We put some south in our mouth. Was just passing through so we didn’t get to try many things but the fried pork chops were perfection. Had to get a side of brown gravy to smother it… Fried Okra and greens were great but the jalapeno muffin was delightful while the homemade biscuits were warm and melted in my mouth. The perfect southern hole in the wall

Wilson’s Commissary is a gem in Laurel’s downtown—a cozy spot that delivers the kind of Southern comfort food and warm hospitality you’d tell your friends about. Whether you’re craving fried chicken, meatloaf, classic sides, or a sweet southern dessert, this place feels like home with every bite. Highly recommended.

Sunday lunch was $10 for a meat and two veggies. I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes, fried okra, and green beans. The fried okra could have been better; it was a little overcooked. The waitress was attentive and personable. I didn’t notice the decor because the restaurant was Full!
Delicious!

Reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. The entries are great and come with two delicious sides. It is plenty of food for one person. The complimentary biscuit bites and jalapenos corn bread muffins are amazing. Service is very fast. If you come during a busy time expect that you may be sharing a table with someone else because the tables are very long and intended to be shared. Service is southern hospitality at its best. Try the sweet potatoes!

I really wanted to like this place. The person who greeted us at the door and served us was fantastic! She was friendly and very helpful. However, the food was inconsistent. Greens and black eyed peas were excellent. Creamed corn was a bit sweet for my taste. Meat loaf was good, but chicken fried steak was a little thin and the gravy could have been a bit more flavorful. Diners are served on long tables with bench seating, and I assume that couples could be dining at tables with strangers if the space was needed. There were also a few flies in the dining area as well as a few dead flies lying on the windowsill. All in all, not quite the experience I had hoped for. However, the place was filled with diners, so perhaps mine is the minority opinion.

Food was served cold. Waitress told us the brussel sprouts were sautéed with bacon. They were mushy and boiled. Disappointed. Hopefully an off-day for them because it was a cute little place.

I recently visited Wilson’s Commissary in Laurel, Mississippi, and it was a decent experience. The food was okay, not extraordinary, but the service was good. The atmosphere had a charming, down-home country feel that we really enjoyed. Overall, it was a nice trip, and I’d say it was good, not great.

This place came highly recommended.
We happened to go in just as they stopped serving lunch/started transition to dinner. So…we had a limited menu.
What we chose was good. It was just disappointing to not have the full experience.
The bartender was kind enough to make me a strawberry margarita. Unfortunately she used salt for the rim. Pretty much ruined it.

We stopped in Laurel heading home from our New Orleans trip. We opted to try this establishment out due to the amount of patrons inside.

We opted for the bar. We waited a bit to be acknowledged and for the plates to be removed. But again, they did have a fair amount going on.

We ordered the fried fish and the country fried steak. Everything tasted good enough and the food arrived very quickly!

The jalapeño corn bread bites were so good! Def recommend those!

We walked in to this establishment and were amazed at how large it was compared to the outside look. We sat at the bar but realized it was a BAR bar. My son is only 14 so we chose a window table. We sat around for a bit waiting on the server. Maybe 17 seconds. 🙂 she came over brought menus and immediately took our drink order.
We looked at the menu and were a little confused. She came over and asked if she could help. We said yes. We didn’t realize all they had on the dinner menu was po boys. It was fine. We just didn’t know. She said it’s something they had implemented a couple days prior. We asked about a couple buffet items and she was more than helpful in directing us to the right choice.
Our food came out and smelled amazing. The portions were abundant to say the least. The wait was longer than expected. We played checkers with little butters on the checker board on the table. It was fun! But it is all served super fresh. My 14 year old said the food makes up for the wait. IT REALLY DID!!! The service too! They are absolutely amazing. The music is a bit loud. It makes it hard for the servers to hear soft spoken people. That would probably be the only thing I would change. Just a couple decibels lower.
The location is outstanding. It’s clean and the staff are helpful and courteous. The prices are definitely budget friendly. I would recommend!
