Wow! I think that best describes every experience I have here. The food is always amazing. The pulled pork is always on point; tender, juicy, and delicious. The brisket is simply amazing. The corn nuggets are nothing short of world famous and hands down some of the best sweet tea I’ve ever had. Easily one of our favorite BBQ restaurants anywhere and its local!

We’ve visited Willie Jewels BBQ several times through the years. Typically it’s one of our stops when visiting Charleston Southern University. If you’re looking for a good BBQ option in this area of North Charleston definitely check it out. This time I went with the daily special. Chicken plate with 2 sides and a rib. I went with black eyed peas and fried okra. They asked if I wanted ranch or blue cheese with the okra, unbeknown to me ranch is awesome with fried okra. Try it out if you go.
Don’t let the location fool you either, just find a place to park and go enjoy some good Q!

I got the smoked wing combo w/ mac n cheese and the wings looked amazing when they came out. The food was hot and fresh. The mac n cheese was fantastic; creamy, smooth and cheesy. It was overly salty or clumpy and dry.
The wings had the perfect crispiness to them; I tried them w/ the homemade ranch (which was really good) but I absolutely LOVED the sweet & sassy sauce. In my opinion, hands down THE BEST Wings I’ve had in Charleston in 3 yrs.
The cashier and staff were friendly and kind & the atmosphere was giving down home southern bbq vibes & the restroom was clean.

The sides here are terrific! We enjoyed the fried okra, fried pickles, green beans, hash & rice, corn fritters, fries, and pork skins. Also try the blueberry cornbread if they haven’t sold out of it yet — sooo tasty! These guys certainly can make genuine Southern sweet tea…WOW! And, of course, the BBQ pulled pork sandwich was as delicious as I remember from our last visit months ago. We’re definitely not waiting that long again to come back. Great staff! Great experience! See you again very soon.

I think they are overpriced. I ordered the pulled pork and hash to go. The pulled pork was good, cost too much for a pound. The hash already has the rice mixed in, which is not what I ordered. The hash also had potatoes in it…why? Seems like just a way to stretch something that is already too expensive. Lastly, don’t eat the BBQ sauce. Yes, it’s got their name on it, but I can bet that old Willie never put “Carmel coloring” in his original sauce. This was produced in a factory and has all the trademark ingredients that will cause bloating and digestive issues. It will definitely spike your blood sugar. My recommendation is to find somewhere else to get your BARBEQUE.

Willie Jewell’s Old School BBQ in North Charleston offers an authentic, family-owned barbecue experience with smoked meats that are tender, flavorful, and packed with a rich smoky essence. Their pulled pork and turkey are standouts, each cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. The pulled pork is juicy and savory, while the smoked turkey is moist and light, with a delicate smoky flavor. The sauces, whether sweet, tangy, or spicy, complement the meats beautifully without overpowering the natural flavors. Their sides, like the crispy fried okra and flavorful hash and rice, are equally well-prepared, rounding out the meal with a comforting, home-cooked feel.
The staff at Willie Jewell’s, part of this family-run business, are incredibly welcoming and attentive, creating a friendly, down-home atmosphere from the moment you walk in. They are quick to offer suggestions if you’re unsure of what to order, and their enthusiasm for the food makes the experience all the more enjoyable. Even during busy times, the team is efficient and ensures your food arrives in a timely manner. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, the family touch and service add to the overall charm of dining at this classic barbecue spot.

Forget about eating in downtown Charleston. The drive is worth it! This place tops them ALL. I’m a tough judge and picky. We spent 5 days eating around downtown Charleston, Sullivan Island, and Savannah. This spot is #2. Casual environment. Very clean. Polite and fast service. Nice background music. Friendly folks. My husband rated his brisket and ribs an 8/10. Our sides were 8/10. He said his pecan pie was the best in his 65 years! I’m too full to try my bread pudding. Both desserts were HOT! You’re welcome. #pickyfoodie

Good food! Meat was done nicely, burgers were great. A good local spot. The cobblers were the only minus: They tasted like grease and heavy butter

Fantastic food. Great service. Staff was friendly. Not a lot of seating area, but we put some tables together for our large group of 15. Ribs are amazing. Pulled pork was enjoyed as well. The various BBQ sauces were great. It was the perfect after-church family lunch spot.

Proteins were room temperature but well seasoned. The side dishes were hot and delicious. The service was great they forgot my wife’s potato salad and were genuinely apologetic about doing so. The banana pudding was great also but too small of a portion. I got it togo. We are from out of state and will return on our next visit
