We shared fried crab rangoons which were so delicious and fresh… As good as any we’ve eaten anywhere…
And then we have the honey walnut shrimp which was fantastic.
I highly recommend it.
The only slightly and I mean slightly negative things were:
They charge $6 for a pot of tea (which was big and tasty but usually free) and the waitress although not rude, was not overtly friendly either.
The pictures are both my 1/2 of the dinner.
Long version – This particular Saturday we arrived about an hour after opening and had the entire place to ourselves. A few people came in but only to pick up orders.
The restaurant was spotless, well decorated, and the young gal who handled us was very friendly. All the dishes came out hot, and there was so much food, my leftovers fed me lunch for three workdays.
The appetizer platter had a wide variety of items on it, crab rangoon being my fav. Although I don’t like crab :-), I didn’t really taste it because it had more cream cheese than crab, which was just the way I like it. Ha!
The egg drop soup only had corn (most other places there are peas and carrots), and I wonder if they put too much yellow food coloring in it (?). It still tasted good, though, no complaints there.
Two slight disappointments keep me from giving the 5-star rating. First, their Thai tea was a little weak, not so much in flavor but in consistency. It tasted more watery than milky, which I can only guess is attributed to the milk / creamer used. I like my tea creamier & sweeter, where WGAB’s was thinner. Second, the cashew chicken needed more chicken and less celery. I know celery is cheap but there was waay too much in the dish — and there was no water chestnuts. That was disappointing.
My sister really enjoyed her butterscotch braised pork. I will say it had a very unique flavor to it, but it’s not something I would order because it’s too fatty for my liking.
I’m sure it was a matter of staffing, our waitress was busy, but the first entree came out almost 10 minutes before the last (of four), and we had to ask for the rice a while after we were served our entrées.
I started with the lemongrass chicken, flavoring a little off from what I normally would enjoy. The lemongrass was a package, not fresh, can you taste the difference absolutely! Chicken moist and tender with lots of garlic, onions and lemongrass flavor. Honestly not the top of the list.
But the Mongolian Beef tender juicy pieces of beef marinated in all the goodness top choice. They only have plates therefor if you want just the entrée unfortunately you can’t. I was by myself and didn’t want to order extra fried rice. Fried rice seasoned heavy on the soy sauce, delicious non the less!
Absolutely no doubt this is a STAR in Gilbert rising up..
I did ask if the lemongrass was fresh or packaged. They said packaged, you can tell once again not a bad thing, maybe take the fresh and freeze some fresh lemongrass ya that may do the trick.
谢谢您的热情款待!thank you for the hospitality! Paul
Our server was exceptionally kind and patient with our daughter that came with us. She brought out her fried rice ahead of our mains to help manage our busy toddler. That was greatly appreciated and thoughtful.
We ordered the egg rolls which are HUGE. I mean absolutely massive and thick, which made it difficult to really enjoy the crispy shell. The flavor of these was good, but the ratio of filling to shell is off due to the size of them.
Chicken lo mein was about what I expected but not as tasty as I secretly hoped it would be. The noodles were well cooked as were the veggies, but it was more oily than flavorful. It left me a little disappointed. The shrimp pad thai had a sweeter flavor and wasn’t very spicy which was surprising.
All in all, this was a decent place to dine it. I don’t know that I’d drive out of the way to eat there again, but I can see this place being a local go to for quick Asian cuisine.
I ordered the Master Gee’s Chicken, and it was absolutely delicious. My mom went for the Kung Pao Panda, and she raved about the great taste
Both dishes featured perfectly tender meat and veggies cooked to a perfect tender-crisp—like they were just waiting for their moment in the spotlight.
In short, this place gets a resounding 10/10 from us! We need one in our home state of Minnesota!
Their egg/spring rolls are just okay, their prices are not great when it comes to the quality of the food – a lot of the dishes seem kind of bland and the tough meat does not help. The vegetables on one dish tasted soggy and low quality.
However, they do have the best dang General Tso’s Chicken I’ve had in awhile, they call it Master Gee’s Chicken. There were unfortunately some tough pieces of chicken in that piece as well, but not all, just some.
The dine in area is very nice, very clean, very modern, comfortable, dimly lit, bit of an off-putting smell, having worked in a kitchen before it smells like a dirty drain somewhere that really needs cleaning. That smell will probably not be noticeable by most people unless they know what it is right off the bat.
Moderately good, solid midrange.
If you’re from the Midwest or back east and miss the type of Chinese food you had back home, then this is the place for you! Egg rolls are real egg rolls, and the egg foo young is the best I’ve tried in AZ.
