This is my go to spot for barbecue here in Salem! Every time I’ve been here, the service has been above and beyond friendly, and the food is always spectacular. I also think it’s fantastic that we have such a wonderful, black owned and operated restaurant right here in North Salem. I know from watching how black businesses are normally treated in this town how precious it is for one to be able stay strong for as long as Whuttles has, and I am SO grateful that they have!! I’m a barbecue snob and I can tell you that the meats are always tender and flavorful, amount of sauce is perfect, the food is always seasoned with love to perfection, and I don’t know what’s been going on with the brisket the low review authors have been getting here, but that’s my MVP. I always get the two meat mac with brisket and pulled pork and have never, ever had a bad cut of meat here! It’s kinda weird that it’s in walmart, and it’s almost always empty when I’ve been, but don’t let that stop you, this place is a diamond in the rough for sure. As I wrote earlier, my personal favorite is the two meat Mac with the brisket and pulled pork, but you also will not miss with the ribs or the chicken. The sides are also fantastic, I’m a big fan of their cornbread and baked beans, and I don’t even really like potato salad but theirs slaps. I haven’t had the chance to try the hot links yet, but I’m kind of a spice wuss so I don’t know if that will ever make it onto my plate. Regardless, this is one spot you do not want to miss! Whuttles is HEAVENLY!

When I first got here , it was as I was leaving Walmart I had never noticed the place before so I figured I will get some lunch why not…. well, I’ve been here 20 minutes ago, there is literally only 1 other customer, no one else is here.. I’ve been waiting almost a half an hour for a single sandwich with no sides… this better be a golden sandwich… can’t even tell you if the food is good…I can’t get mine lol.. so I can’t say the sandwich was bad, I can say for $12 brisket sandwich they took almost a half an hour to get when there was no customers should have been about twice the size… instead what you get is a standard hamburger bun medium filled with cold brisket and fat chunks with cold BBQ sauce drizzled over the top, I can’t even tell you it’s a giant hamburger bun because it’s not… Firehouse Subs offers a $14 smoked brisket sandwich that is at least twice the size.. it didn’t taste bad but I still kind of feel lacking for having spent so much for a small sandwich, then having to wait so long when no customers were there that was mediocre at best.. they probably could have gotten done faster if the Old gentlemen who was sitting at the counter when I first got there would have quit talking to them and let them do their work.. it shouldn’t take 35 minutes for a sandwich that is as the size of a McDonald’s hamburger.

The customer service was great, the lady was super nice and patient with me! The food was not the best, the brisket was cold and had no taste. The BBQ said really helped the brisket. The pulled pork was decent. I will be back as they have so many options.

Whuttles is an unassuming place at first glance, located inside the Lancaster Walmart at the Grocery entrance, but don’t let that dissuade you from giving this hidden gem a chance.
We were greeted warmly and offered some great insight on what to try as newcomers. Being our first time, we ordered a two-meat combo of brisket and pulled pork, with mac n’ cheese and potato salad for sides.
While we waited for our order, we took in the atmosphere. There are some beautiful murals to admire, though the rest of the restaurant is a bit stark and cold.
That said, it smells amazing, and our food did not disappoint! Everything was delicious, but I would be lying if I said that mac n’ cheese wasn’t the star here. Wow! We could eat a bucket of that alone and die happy…
Really, give them a shot. The portion sizes were great for a BBQ place, and the food was delicious. We can hardly wait to go back!

This place is blessed. The people are blessed. The food is blessed. I had two slices of sweet potato pie for me and my wife. The pie was delicious. This location is right inside the Walmart on Lancaster. It gets busy but staff are super friendly and service was quick. We ordered the 3meat combo: hot links, ribs and rib tips and two sides: Mac & cheese and potato salad. Food was delicious. Mac & cheese had really good flavors. The links are a bit spicy, not too bad, if used to spice. We tried the bbq baked beans last times and everything tasted so good. We ordered take out but there’s a huge area to sit and eat. Definitely recommend.
