We ordered one Whitmans Smash, The Hound, and an order of regular and sweet potato fries. The smash was very tasty but had minimal sautéed onion (as you can see in the photo). My buddy said The Hound was great. Regular fries were very good too- Almost like a crispier version of Five Guys. Sweet potato fries were average and I wouldn’t order again.
There was a party downstairs so I’m sure the kitchen was slammed but the server upstairs was very welcoming.

We came here for burgers on a Friday night! Loved it! The staff, the food and the service all great! There is a kids menu which was perfect for our picky eaters! Thanks team, we will be back!

Very small place and it was quite cold in there. The person working behind the counter was very nice. The fried pickles were unlike any we ever got before and at first we weren’t sure what to think of them but then they quickly became addictive and we couldn’t stop eating them. Very crunchy and delicious. The loaded tots were very good. I got the green chili burger. The onions on it were raw and not pickled like it said but I really didn’t mind. My fiance got the Mangold burger and it was very good however it had the tiniest bit of the horseradish cream sauce on it so it was barely detectable and we wouldn’t know it had it on there if we didn’t read the menu.

Whitman’s is a fantastic American restaurant that is known for their burgers
They have a nice downstairs area and even have some games such as Monoploy and Codenames.
Here is everything we shared:
Fried Pickles
Crack Kale
East Villi Cheesesteak
Juicy Lucy
Cabernet Savignon –
We both loved it! The crack kale in particular was a recommendation from the server and it had a great crunch/flavor. I really loved the burger which was juicy especially with the pimento cheese.
Fantastic service also! I’d go back!

I can truly say there burgers was a big hit after going to play with my cousins we was starving and we choose Whitman worth every bite. Nicely cooked and very juicy. Fries was fresh hand cut potatoes pickles nice and crunch. Onion rings big and juicy. So if your ever close by 1st ave and 9 at go check them out. They even have games downstairs to help you pass the time while waiting for your food. We played Uno had a good time. Thanks Whitman

Burgers were absolutely perfect! They DO have a lettuce wrap option even though it’s not on the menu, for the calorie-conscious. Absolutely recommend the Bluicy.
Servers were nice albeit a little spacey and inexperienced, but it’s not a fancy place so it’s fine.
Our server told us the fried kale side (crack kale) was healthier than getting fries…it did NOT taste healthy. It was drowning in grease, practically dripping with it. Would not recommend.
Good decor, nice for a chill evening with friends. A bit too casual for a date.

decided to try this place with a friend. we got a couple burgers, a wedge salad and fries.
the salad was big and very good. we really enjoyed the housemade blue cheese dressing. the burgers were just okay. they were quite small for nearly $20. we were asked our desired temps, but both burgers were cooked well done, and a bit dry. the fries were just okay also. they were also overcooked and unseasoned. $8 for them is a bit steep.
we would have mentioned the temps on the burger to our server, but we didnt have time. i doubt we will come back, because there are cheaper, better burgers all over the city.

A bit expensive and some think the portions are small but I think it’s the perfect size with relation to the bun and lettuce and other toppings. The raw onion on the classic burger was great and the homemade chips are delicious. Fries are good, too. Service was friendly and quick. Will go back for sure, we saw someone get a steak and cheese and it looked really good.

I came because my friends – who’d been there a couple of years ago – allegedly told it was one of the best burgers in town.
So we went.
BUT:
All the burgers were salty
Fries were just ok
Service was slow (not blaming the server, he was alone doing his best between cashier, take aways and tables on two floors)
Price was high for what we got quality wise: $30 (tip included) per person for a burger and a beer (and the fries were free as a day special, thank god )
I won’t probably be coming back.
