AMAZINNNNNG. My new favorite spot in all of SoCal. Seriously.
We ordered the brekkie quesadilla (pictured), banana bread skillet (pictured), chilaquiles with try-tip added, smoked carnitas brunch burrito, and la flaca scramble, but I requested cheese to be added (what a great choice by me!). Once I realized I wanted to leave a rave review, I had already finished my plate (pictured). But everything about what I ate was amazing. The perfect balance of richness in my plate (thanks cheese), veggie distribution and grilled-to-perfection flavor in them was enough to say this is the best scramble I’ve EVER had. I also tried the banana dish and that was lovely. The portions sizes were perfect for me. My boys had the other plates. The quesadilla was also all-time according to my son. The side sauce was amazing he said (tomatillo maybe?) He loved the tri-tip also.
There were so many other items I wanted to try that I will have to wait for another day. Our bellies were full and so happy.
As far as the service and ambiance, it was fantastic. For context, we went on a Saturday morning, when I’d usually expect a rush on breakfast restaurants. It wasn’t crazy at all. No wait. No problem. Also, we saw a dog dining with his people inside, which is nice to see that they are dog-friendly. The servers and staff were so pleasant and attentive. It’s small enough that you don’t get lost or forgotten and also enough staff around that you always have someone to ask for anything you need at almost any moment. We had timely service, but didn’t feel rushed at all. Someone in an earlier review mentioned the plastic chairs. I can confirm they are lovely, but I took a pic for reference.
The charm of indoor/outdoor concept is lost a bit considering it faces a parking lot of a run down strip mall and is next door to a bait shop, but the entire area is being renovated bit by bit so hopefully the location will make more sense soon enough.
The first time here I had the chiliquilles. REALLY REALLY delicious! My friend ordered the carnitas quesadilla. She said it was delicious AND A LOT OF FOOD. Today I had the shrimp and grits tamale….again…. delicious and spicy!!!
We both had the La Jolla lemonade…I could drink those all day long poolside
Had a fantastic time at The White Rooster Café in Dana Point. The tri-tip tacos were absolutely amazing—perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. The kale salad was excellent, fresh and well balanced. Unbelievable chef. The service was fantastic, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. Great atmosphere, relaxed and welcoming, and overall just a really enjoyable experience. I had a great time and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
The food was creative and very tasty. Sadly, the place was markedly short handed. There was only one waitress for about ten tables. She was very helpful and nice, but clearly overwhelmed trying to take orders, bring out orders, mixing drinks, busting tables, etc.
The restaurant is quite new and may be working through the kinks. We really enjoyed the food, but I would hesitate to return until they address their staffing. Our drinks didn’t arrive until after we had already finished our breakfast which was disappointing. Beyond that it seemed like everyone was scrambling trying to keep up with business.
I hope that White Rooster is able to adjust staffing and thrive in the future.
