I’ve been to the whistle stop many, many times and have always enjoyed the food, had great service and found the prices to be very reasonable. They have such a diverse menu from pizza to Mexican to seafood. My only criticism is that, although they have a very diverse menu, they are still best at standard American dishes like sandwiches, burgers, pizza, shrimp, fish and chips and all breakfasts, which I believe they serve all day.
If you don’t know what to have, you can’t go wrong with their biscuits and gravy.

Also their burgers and fries are incredible plus they have a salad bar one can add to most orders for a nominal charge.

One thing I’ve found is that they are always willing to work with customers to make sure they have a great meal. If you don’t like something don’t be afraid to tell them, they’ll work to make it right, at least they always have in my experience.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch today. This was our first visit to the Whistle Stop. We were extremely pleased with our experience. They had a wide range of menu options. My husband ordered the calzone and I had the Aloha Burger. Due to food sensitivities I asked them to put my burger in a wrap instead of on a bun and they were very accommodating. The calzone and the burger were both excellent and the portions were very generous. Our hostess/waitress did a very good job. Only minor complaint was that they only have sweet tea, no unsweetened tea.

Responding to Paul Dumas, I am the Owner Operator of The Whistle Stop Restaurant in Mayville. The only way I could respond to the posts and reviews was to post one myself. Responding to Paul Dumas, I had talked to you on the phone about the issue you had and did all I could to solve the issue at hand. We take allergies very seriously and do our best to assure our guests a safe place to eat. You said that you were allergic to the sausage in our country gravy and yet you had a Denver omelet earlier that day(which you said it was amazing). We would have made you something different if you would have asked us. As I told you before that I was deeply sorry for your experience and I did try to resolve your issue. Sorry you felt it necessary to slam us on here, but I did all I could to make up for the misunderstanding.

We had a horrible experience. We went for lunch today and were so disappointed. We arrived 10 minutes before another large table and the other table was taken care of first, given menus and drinks before we were even given menus. We were just sitting there waiting. They were finishing their food when we got ours! All of our burgers were burnt. I added onion rings to my meal for a dollar and got like 5 onion rings on my plate?! When I told this to the waitress and asked to be refunded she rolled her eyes at me said okay and walked away. It took 55 minutes for us to get our food and it was just our table and that one other table. Our waitress brought our food and then we had to wait 5 minutes for her to come back with silverware to us. We have never received such poor customer service in our life. My mom paid 8 dollars for a sandwich that had lunch meat on it when she was expecting real turkey…we could have made a lunch meat sandwich at home! I don’t know why I did this but on the way out I grabbed a slice of French silk pie and it was very old and crusty, I couldn’t even get my fork to slice into the whipped topping without force.
We will never ever be returning and it was the first time we have ever not left a tip. And we eat out a lot and tip well. I have never even reviewed a restaurant before but this was just too bad to not say something. I hope things change! And that maybe we just came in on a bad day and it’s not always like that!

No, we were there before the other table(they are friends of ours) and the kids at our table asked my parents who were the other couple sitting with us at our table, why the other table was getting served before us when we had been there before them. Also, they were not a smaller group then us. They had the same number of people.
The onion ring situation was not a confrontation at all. I politely asked to be refunded for my onion rings as I didn’t realize the small amount they would come in, because no, nobody explained the ratio to me before or after. When I politely asked the waitress she muttered okay rolled her eyes at me and walked away. That was it.
I am not sure what quality the turkey is just that it was lunch meat opposed to a slice actually cut off a turkey that we have always got at other restaurants.
The burgers were burnt. We didn’t say anything because at that point we had already waited almost an hour for our food and we were ready to leave.
We were just surprised that service took so long when it was just us and our friends seated at the table across the room.
The comments I made were comments that our whole table said.

Like I said before maybe it was just a bad day. But it was a BAD day. And none of the comments I made were false. It’s really not a big deal I just wanted to make sure the facts were straight.

I will not rate this as a restaurant because they do not know the difference between the two different types of country gravy and the waiter was verry ignorant and they do not know how to accommodate for food allergies and are unwilling to offer a different options I would not take my dog to eat there and I travel coast to coast I’m a professional driver
