Cute little coffee shop close to my job. Only my second time going. I ordered a medium seasonal latte, but it was not filled all the way (see pic below). This was before my first sip. For the price, I would expect a full cup. I really like their mission so I hope to give them a third chance.

This little coffee shop on Madison Ave with its large windows facing the street always feels bright and welcoming, even on dark and rainy days. I have bought coffee here three times in the last three weeks and the place has always been busy. I have yet to try the pastries or the hot chocolate and will try these on my next visit. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The outdoor patio and garden area look very inviting. It’s very generous of the owner to donate all of Whirlwind’s net profit to help charities and our community. I have never seen that before. I have seen a business donate a porton of their net profit, but all of it? Amazing! I highly recommnd Whirlwind Coffee Company.

The coffee here was exceptional, the baristas were accommodating, the service was prompt and the delicious. I highly recommend this coffee shot, perfect neighborhood staple. There were no seats when I arrived and they pulled up a stool so I can work on the back table!

It’s a bummer to write this review for Whirlwind. There is so much to love about this cafe — their charity-minded business model, cozy atmosphere and variety of offerings. All that being said, over the last few years I have only had 2-3 lattes in which the espresso wasn’t over- or under-extracted, making the latte either extremely sour or bitter and thus undrinkable.
The first time this happened, perhaps a year after their opening, was a surprise. I mentioned the sourness to the barista working and they happily replaced my latte — and the replacement was much better. But it’s awkward and uncomfortable to have to complain and request a replacement every time this happens, especially when it now happens pretty much every time I order.
If the cafe weren’t so close, and their business model one I’d ideally love to support, I wouldn’t have gone back, but…every few months I’d check the specials, get tempted by one of their new creations, and stop in, hoping that my experience would be different. Today’s order will likely mark my final patronage of Whirlwind. I ordered two different lattes (one regular, one seasonal) to see how they compared. Both were overwhelmingly sour, to the point where the aftertaste is lingering in my mouth nearly an hour later as I write this review. I dumped them both down the kitchen drain.
If you’re looking for something other than an espresso-based drink, then Whirlwind may be the place for you. If you’re after a drinkable latte in Oak Park, I’d recommend you look elsewhere.

I love this place, but my coffee always was consistently perfect, but since early summer not so much! I don’t ever order dark roast. I stick to lighter and medium roasts. What I’ve noticed lately, is that the coffee I get is either very bland and weak, or so dark and strong, that cream doesn’t even cut it and lighten it up unless you pour half the cup of coffee out. At that point, what’s the point of calling it coffee? And to be fair, Most of the time I’m ordering Decaf. Recently I ordered a decaf and a few cups of Guatemala to which everybody is disappointed with how strong and dark they both are. This is just constructive criticism, but I wanted dark roast coffee, I would have ordered dark roast coffee. But it still makes no sense that the same exact coffee (example Mexico) is being brewed too light or too dark depending on the visit and never IMHO how it should be for that specific roast.

As a local business owner with CertaPro Painters of Oak Park and Chicago Central, my team and I are always on the go, and Whirlwind Coffee Company keeps us running strong. Their coffee is top-notch, always fresh, and the perfect start to a busy workday. You can tell they care about quality and community, which is something we really value as a local company ourselves. Whether we’re grabbing a quick cup between jobs or stocking up for the office, Whirlwind never disappoints. Highly recommend supporting this great local spot!

This place was great. I ran past it early Saturday morning & treated my partner later that same day. She got their blueberry lemon scone & a flat white with coconut milk. I got an iced latte with almond milk & caramel flavor. They have a lovely outdoor seating area so we sat outside for a few minutes. On the coffee cup it says they donate 100% of their (net) profits to charities which is pretty dope. Keep up the good work & swell vibes

Came in today morning Coffee was good but customer service was not. Came in and no one greeted us coming in. Nor the cashier ask if we needed help or when to take our order until the barista making drinks ask if we needed help or questions. Then after said the cashier would help which she didnt seem to want to help. Felt a bit of racism at that point.

Stopped by Whirlwind Coffee Company to try out their in-house roasts. They had 2 drips brewed, a Single origin and High Kick blend. I tried the High Kick… roast was a bit nutty, didn’t taste much floral. Flavor was good, was hoping for great. I believe they are still in start up mode, with a tad bit of funky hours for a cafe. I eyed delivery of their espresso machine, so maybe a fresh pressing may change my mind. I whole heartedly support their great mission and will return.
