Didn’t eat there-just went for their own brewed beer. Oops-not the right decision… they had 4 of their own on tap-one supposed NEIPA just called Whirligig IPA. And then three sours. Wild Rabbit sour was ok but very sour. Can’t imagine what the one actually labeled VERY sour might be! The super disappointment was the IPA. This is the 30th Vermont brewery we’ve been to and the first time we had an IPA that actually tasted bad. It had an ashy smoky quality and really no ipa or hazy flavor at all. Took two sips and didn’t finish it. That almost never happens unless I try something super weird like tomato basil experimental beer (true story/Screaming Hill in NJ)
The people that were eating seemed happy. A guy at the end of the bar said the IPA was undrinkable as well.
The bartender was super nice and only charged for the sour. She was the high point of our visit!
Come on down the GF game is wonderful!
We stopped by Whirligig for lunch while in town during our weekend in Vermont. Our visit was during a weekend afternoon and the establishment was busy.
The first thing we noticed about this menu is that it very much can cater to gluten sensitivities, as many of their options are available as gluten-free.
On our visit to Whirligig we ordered two sandwiches, the smoked chicken chipotle and the smoked pork chipotle, and a couple Ciders. Order and payment at Whirligig is taken at the bar and you take a number to your seat where the food is delivered to you once it’s complete. There is some limited inside seating with a good number of tables outdoors under a covered patio.
Our food arrived after a 20 minute wait, which is a bit longer than what we are used to but we were conversing about our trip and we weren’t bothered by the wait. Both the chicken chipotle and the pork chipotle sandwiches were absolutely delicious, packed with flavor, and very filling. I have to make a special shout-out to the bread, which was honestly in the conversation as some of the best bread I have ever had. This seems to have been a common theme with my bread experiences in Vermont, I would love to know your secret because the bakeries up there are doing something great!
Overall we enjoyed our experience at Whirligig and we would be happy to return here for another meal if we find ourselves back in the area!
