Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn’t help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we’re still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.
Circa-1950 fast-food chain for counter-serve burgers, some stacked with multiple patties.

There was trash EVERYWHERE! Just look at the pictures. All around the building.
Over the speaker, the cashier sounded pleasant. When I got to the window, I greeted her. With a straight face and no acknowledgement she gave my total and held out her little card reader. Had an attitude when I needed to scan my Whataburger app. She said “Oh.”
I get my fries immediately. Bag is warmish so I already knew it was gonna be disappointing. The fries were not hot. They had to have been sitting for a while because the inside was already gritty.
Of course there was attitude when I asked for fresh fries. After that I have two people hovering past the window to look at me. It made me very uncomfortable but now that I know there’s three of y’all, go do your job! If you don’t like your job, why are you there?
So they have me pull forward to wait for fresh fries. Mind you, now I’m sitting with my window almost directly next to the trash can in the photo, and rolling over the trash on the ground. A truck pulled up honking at me to move up more even though he had room, but I was not about to have that trash in my face.
Cars who pulled up behind me much later were already leaving with their food. Thankfully the fries were hot the second time around but with the amount of time I waited, and the amount of people walking around aimlessly, it should’ve been right the first time. Glad I didn’t get anything else because looking at the reviews, I probably would’ve been pretty upset having to wait LONGER for a burger.
I do wish they did like other locations and asked what kind of ketchup I wanted instead of one regular and one spicy. But honestly I wouldn’t expect anything more than the bare minimum from this location. Visit at your own risk. ⚠️
Then you have to argue with the cook who is the cashier wearing gloves. Now all that staff and nobody can take money from customers. I’m quite sure this business can not afford gloves so they gotta cook, handle money and mop with the same gloves. The way people stand around and the dining area nasty I don’t blame the owner not affording gloves. Too much riding the clock and not enough sanitation practice. How right would it be to take those gloves off sanitize your hands and handle the money. If you nasty at work I know it’s on you and it didn’t start at work.
Avoid this location I walked out I was so disgusted the tremendous cross contamination is ridiculous. Anybody got the health department number.
The overall experience just wasn’t worth it. I definitely won’t be coming back, and I don’t recommend it to anyone. Honestly, even McDonald’s—with all its awful fast food—tastes better and feels more consistent than Whataburger.
