What If… of Hershey came highly recommended by a friend. If you are on the picky side, I recommend looking at the menu prior, this is not a place where you can get a buffalo chicken sandwich or cheese burger (for those 12 and older). The menu is creative and difficult to pick just one entree because there are many delicious options. I ordered the Wild Halibut (GF) Lemon Crab Mornay, Crispy Prosciutto, Spinach Risotto (pictured) and it was so tasty. Also our group of 3 shared a Salted Caramel Profiterolen Du Jour (pictured). It was amazing and could have feed a group of 4 easily! So yummy. I definitely would eat there again.

You wouldn’t know it by the outside, but there is an amazing restaurant underneath the Howard Johnson! We came here for a special occasion and was blown away by this place. The food is incredible and so are the drinks! Our waiter was such a sweetheart and took food allergies very seriously. All of our food was cooked perfectly! The dessert was very good, but I recommend sharing it with more than 2 people. I would love to come back here again!

The food was amazing! The service was first class. We were there on a Friday and had the fish and chips. It was amazing… an old family recipe but let me tell you, their menu is first class and the food is exceptional. I travel a lot and not many restaurants can compare to the What If. Emily is the best, ask for her

This is the best kept secret in Hershey…I almost don’t want to review it, so it stays a local secret!! Tucked in the basement of the Howard Johnson on East Chocolate Ave, you walk in and smell chlorine from the pool, so you think this might be a dump. Think again. The food is OUTSTANDING. Chefs are amazing, desserts are HUGE and fresh and delicious. Its a great place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or have a romantic date. I could probably go for just the desserts!! The Chesapeake Filet is the best steak I have ever had…and I’m a filet connoisseur. The southwest jumbo shrimp cocktail is a favorite appetizer. Servers are always exceptional.

What If catered our September 2024 wedding. The food was INCREDIBLE!! It was soo great to work with Joanna and her team to set up an amazing menu. People are still talking about the food! The staff were all so friendly and fun! They even accommodated a private dinner for me and my husband during cocktail hour so we could enjoy our delicious meal in private. The bartenders tended to me all night making sure I didn’t need anything. It was more than we could have ever asked for. We absolutely love going to the restaurant for dinner so it was really special to have one of our favorite places be part of our wedding day. I cannot recommend them enough!!!

Hidden Gem!

I was concerned as we walked in that it would be a dive bar or something low-end, but wow was I pleasantly surprised!

The food was fantastic!

Appetizers:
Lollipop Lamb chops – great! Wanted more!
Seared Ahi Tuna – would order again although I love Yuzu and don’t think that was the sauce
Baked Brie was wonderful
Sea Scallops – loved them but I would argue the raspberry sauce was not a raspberry port wine reduction as much as a jam.

Dinner
Chiopino (Seafood Medley) – Shrimp Scallops, Clams, Mussels, Lobster on a pasta bed with garlic white wine sauce. 5- star and would order again!
Other guests had the red sauce version (Fra Diavolo) which was spicy and they liked it less than the White wine version.

Great spot for a date!

I have stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites many times, but this was the first time I realized the Howard Johnson’s had a restaurant in the basement. I had to take stairs to get to it. I don’t know if there is an elevator, so if you can’t do stairs, call and ask first. I only wanted to place an order to go, soI could continue working in my hotel. I had the best hostess take my order. Her name was Victoria or Vicki (but definitely not Emily). She brought my iced tea out right away and served it to me with a platter of lemons and sweetener options in the seating area outside the restaurant doors while I waited. When she bought my food, she refilled the tea and made sure I took my sweetener choice to go too. The food was hot, even after my short walk back. I wasn’t expecting bread and oil with seasonings. That was a nice touch. I will definitely order from here again. The atmosphere inside was lively and full of laughter from the bar and a family singing happy birthday in the corner booth. It was obvious everyone was enjoying the place.

My wife and I came here on a date. We were just blown away. We agree that the duck wontons with fig reduction belong in the list of top ten best things we’ve ever eaten. Her crab cake sandwich was impeccable, my chicken parm was unbelievable, and the environment was perfect for a date. This will forever be a must-stop when we’re in the area, and I’m recommending it to everyone I can.
