I visited Welton Street Cafe while in Denver after seeing multiple TikTok recommendations, and I really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, the experience fell short after the starters.
We began with the frybread, which was actually enjoyable—light, crispy, and comforting. Our server was incredibly sweet and even brought a side of yam juice for dipping, which was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. My sister also ordered a pâté, which we both liked.
For the entrées, however, things went downhill. I ordered the catfish sandwich, and it was honestly very bland—no seasoning, no depth, just crispy batter without flavor. My sister had the fried catfish entrée with macaroni and cheese and yams, and she felt the same about the fish. The mac and cheese tasted like boxed stovetop mac with no seasoning, and the cornbread was hard.
Overall, the service was kind and welcoming, and the starters were the highlight, but the entrées didn’t live up to the hype or justify the trip. Based on our experience, I wouldn’t return for the main dishes.

It’s crazy that I’ve lived in Denver my whole life and never ate here. Experienced it the first time yesterday with my women’s group and the food was delicious! I got the catfish dinner. The greens were nice and a little spicy. The yams were great. The Catfish was fresh and light. We didn’t have a reservations we walked in. They were a little tight but the manager was able to get us in without having to wait over an hour and a half which I so appreciated. Clean establishment and the staff was friendly And attentive. Overall a wonderful restaurant in the neighborhood ‼️

I ate here for the first time and enjoyed myself. The cabbage was a 10 out of 10. The yams were sweet. My waitress Jeanette was 100% great. I ordered the fried catfish( sorry) it tased good but like it was whiting instead of catfish. The cornbread was a little dry for my liking, but all and all go try it for yourself. They do give you a nice portion of food for your money. Enjoy the people the friendliness and the cleanliness. The experience is relaxing, but you do like it says wait awhile for your freshness of food.

Let me just tell you. I am from the Deep South in Alabama. We know fried chicken. This place has some of the best friend chicken I have ever had. I totally see why this is an institution. Everything about this place made me feel like I was home. The green, yams, and mac and cheese were all stellar. Don’t skip on this restaurant. I can’t wait to come back and try the hot wings next!

We had the BEST experience at Welton Street Café! We stopped in after the volleyball state games, and from the moment we walked in, everyone was so kind and welcoming. Our waitress, Miranda, was absolutely wonderful. She even helped pick my dinner selection, the jerk chicken with yams and red beans and rice, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were incredible, and everyone at our table loved their meals.
The atmosphere felt like family. Another waitress even came over to chat with us about the volleyball game, which was such a genuine touch that made the night even more special.
If you go (and you should!), you cannot miss the Kool-Aid, wings, pork chops, or the jerk chicken. Everything was delicious, but the kindness of the staff took it over the top.
We will absolutely be back. Denver gem!

Do not waste your money on the wings here.
We got the 6 piece wings dinner, with Mac and cheese and tabs, the beef, broccoli and cheese pates, and a fry bread.
The wings were served with the hot honey sauce (thankfully we got it in the side). The wings were very plain for being as expensive as there were. The sauce was very viniger heavy.
Everything else was amazing. The Mac and cheese was creamy and had some extra seasoning making so much more than what you make at home. The yams were almost cannied and were just inhaled. The pates is broccoli beef inside a fry bread. Making for a very tasty sandwich. The fry bread needs something sweet to go with it but on it’s own is still tasty.

Stopped by Welton Street Cafe and was warmly welcomed by Lucille at the bar, who helped me with my order. I went with the jerk chicken dinner, paired with potato salad, cabbage, and fry bread—and wow, it did not disappoint. The chicken was packed with flavor, the sides were comforting and well-seasoned, and that fry bread was the perfect touch. If I lived in the area, this would definitely be a regular order.
I also tried the banana pudding for dessert. It was good, though not particularly memorable compared to the standout main course.
Overall, a great local spot with friendly service and soul-satisfying food. I’ll be thinking about that jerk chicken for a while.
