I loved the Wayback Burgers in Winston. When they closed several years back, I was quite disappointed. Every couple of months, I would check to see where the closest location was-which is either Mebane or somewhere near Charlotte. When I saw that a location was opening in High Point, I was excited.

I was greeted politely when I arrived and the young woman at the register, Randi was patient and helpful as my parents decided what they wanted (I already knew I wanted: my standby-the classic, no pickles, add mushrooms- and cheese curds, which I don’t remember the Winston location having on their menu).

Our food did take a little while, but it is a newer restaurant with new staff. They also make the food fresh when you order, not just throwing together a couple of patties with cold cheese. Everything arrived hot, the fries, onion rings, and curds were perfectly crispy. My burger was just as wonderful as I remembered. I also ordered one of their signature shakes-the Chocolate Brownie shake-and enjoyed it.

The general manager also made a point of walking around and checking in with the customers. He’s committed to making sure the food is fresh and good. We definitely believe him and hope they stay in High Point. We’ll see what happens when that Texan Chain opens up nearby.

Service was great and made suggestions about what to try. Food didn’t take long. Had the Bourbon Burger; it was ok. Also had the Bacon Cheese Fries. Bacon was crispy and the fries were soggy, but I blame that on the condensation created by the container they were in. Combo was around $18. Restaurant is located between Little Caesars and Jersey Mike’s.

The food was delicious and more delicious! The service was impeccable. The guys paid close attention to what we ordered and asked for. They were quick to correct a burger mixup with no questions asked. The atmosphere was soft and quiet and relaxing. They are going to out grow this current spot I am sure of it. They are real competition for the other burger joints in town. It was so worth the drive from Asheboro.

It was my first time trying this place and it was fantastic! I ordered the cheesy one and made it a deluxe with their Cajun tater tots, it was literally a crabby patty, I’m HOOKED.

Not too crazy about the burgers but goodness the hotdogs are worth it. I had Chili, Grilled onions, and Ketchup on my hotdog and it was worth every penny lol. I absolutely loved the chili they use. Slightly expensive for one hotdog but I’d go here for a hotdog instead of other places.

I’ve gone here multiple times. Food tasted the same each time. This last time I was there (this week) I ordered one item. A steakhouse burger.

Let me get to the point, I got food poisoning. I threw up that same day during work. My stomach has been upset for three days now. I’ll spare everyone reading the details on what my stool looks like but that burger was to blame. Please ensure food safety standards are being met. I will not be coming back to this location anymore for fear of getting sick again.

Neither the best of burgers nor the worst, Wayback Burgers is a step-up from the fast food drive-thru albeit with higher prices to match. The franchise’s name has retro connotations, and the compact menu – burgers, fries, and shakes with a few chicken and salad options – suits the concept well. This location’s interior is small albeit clean, and it seemed adequately staffed. Speaking of staffing, the cashier who took my order was polite, and there was a minimal wait for my food. If nothing else, Wayback is efficient.

I opted for a Classic burger (cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, mustard, and ketchup) with fries and a drink. The food was served hot, and the portions weren’t lacking (the smash-style patties were thin, but there were two of them), but the flavor was unremarkable. They do, however, offer a strawberry hibiscus iced tea that was pretty good.

Wayback isn’t a place I would go out of my way to return to, but if I’m in the area and need filling food fast, I wouldn’t balk at the idea.

I honestly had no idea this place had opened up until I happened to scroll past a wayback ad on Facebook, and we will forever be glad that I did! We’d been attempting to order online initially as there were a few deals available in the app, however the app was struggling so we ultimately called in. They kindly explained how to get the QR codes for in store use for the same deals and invited us to come in and give it a try. Our first impression was a young employee opening and holding the door for us as we herded our two little ones through the parking lot. He greeted us with a smile, and directed us to the counter where he answered all of our questions. I ordered the double cheesy with a drink and fries, and chicken tenders for the little ones. One of their current deals is if you join their app, you get a free classic burger with your first purchase of $10+! My husband ordered the bacon burger and a hot dog, and also took advantage of the free classic burger. There was hardly any wait for our food, and it was all delicious. We took the free classic burgers home for lunch the next day, and they were just as good reheated! The owner stopped by our table a few times to say hello and check in. The restaurant is a smaller spot for sure, but clean with excellent staff and excellent food. We were so excited to eat we forgot to take pictures lol but we will definitely be back!! Already planning trips with friends and other family members!

Food was fresh and delicious. They’ve been consistent since I first tried them over 6 months ago. Also the chicken tenders and Philly are halal even though not openly advertised.
