Wang Jja Jang 7/10

– Tang Soo Yuk (Sweet & Sour Pork) – Not too sweet with subtle pineapple flavor – Recommend sauce on the side so the pork styles crispy 8/10

– Ja Jang Myun (Noodles w/ Black Bean Paste) – Homey and delicious 8/10

– Jam Pong (Spicy Noodle w/ Seafood) – Flavorful broth but expected more spicy 5/10

– Pan Jeon (Seafood Pancake) – Good fry without being greasy and generous portion of seafood, but octopus a little chewy – 7/10

Great experience with friendly staff and delicious, homey food! We’ll be back to try more items!

We ordered the tangsuyuk, jjajangmyeon, and jjamppong. The flavors were all pretty standard, but the prices were very reasonable, which I really appreciated. The tangsuyuk especially stood out since it was fried in fresh oil. It tasted clean and light. Overall, a solid spot for a simple and affordable meal.

Amazing! The food at this Korean restaurant looks so authentic and comforting — from the sizzling bulgogi and colorful stir-fry to the crispy seafood pancake and hearty tofu stew. You can tell they put a lot of care into their dishes, and the generous portions and vibrant side dishes (banchan) make it feel like a true Korean dining experience. Definitely a spot worth coming back to with friends or family!

The first thing I will say about this restaurant is that I had previously gone to the bakery next door and didn’t even know there was something here. The other businesses in this mall have their signs in large font on the top of the building but this place only has a small sign above the door. I only found out about this place via a friend’s recommendation.

As for the food, my favorite was the Ja Jang Myun. I have only had it a few times before but this place definitely was the best. I also liked the seafood pancake a lot. I would definitely order these again and recommend.

The Japchae noodles and Bibimbap were good but I think I have had better ones at other places. But these dishes at other places seemed to be noticeably sweeter so maybe here is healthier, who knows. I think the the prices were still reasonable with the portion for the japchae being especially large. Finally, I wasn’t a big fan of the banchan appetizers. The kimchi was below average in my opinion and also not much variety. I did like the 2 radish appetizers though.

Although this place had some standout dishes, I think it was not my favorite Korean restaurant in terms of taste. But the prices for the portion seemed better than others in the area so I think we got good value for the price.

Great spot for authentic Korean food in Bethesda/DMV! Only thing is they had 1 waitress for like 13-15 tables and half weren’t cleared as they can get a bit busy so be prepared to wait a bit. Prices very reasonable.

Amazing! I love fried seafood pancake and spicy garlic chicken.
I tried bibimbap and seafood noodle soup today. The portions were huge, delicious, and the stuff was very friendly. This is the best Korean food I’ve ever had in Rockville.

We were excited to try Wang Ja Jang, but unfortunately, our experience was far from enjoyable. It seemed like the owner was managing the entire front of house alone, which led to serious service issues.

Dirty dishes were left on almost every unoccupied table and remained there throughout our entire visit. Service was painfully slow—our food took so long that we ended up eating plain rice out of hunger. We had to ask for water nearly an hour into our meal before it was finally brought to us. To top it off, our appetizer arrived at the same time as our entrée, making it feel pointless as a starter.

It’s a real shame because the food itself was okay. However, the lack of staffing and organization made for a frustrating dining experience. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.

Flavors & Fairways
1. Parking Convenience ★★★★☆
Located in a strip center with available parking, though spaces are a bit tight.

2. Interior ★★☆☆☆
Very old and dated — a typical traditional Korean-Chinese diner.

3. Cleanliness ★★★½☆
The restaurant appears clean, but the aged atmosphere makes it feel a bit dull.

4. Staff Service ★★★½☆
The staff is kind and friendly, but service can be a bit slow since one person seems to be handling everything. Expect some waiting.

5. Food Quality ★★★★☆
Food tastes great. Not flashy or modern, but nothing is lacking — classic and satisfying.

6. Portion Size ★★★★☆
Portion sizes are just right — balanced and filling.

7. Value for Money ★★★★☆
Very good value. The food quality and portion size make the pricing feel fair.

Wang Ja Jang is a nostalgic Korean-Chinese restaurant located in a small strip center in Rockville. If you’re looking for classic jjajangmyeon or tangsuyuk, this place won’t disappoint. It’s not fast-paced or modern, but it’s full of comfort and authenticity. A solid spot for traditional flavors at a reasonable price.

One of my favorite places for old-fashioned, authentic Korean food with a modest array of side dishes. Grateful that such places still manage to stay in business. I’ve been here a couple of times and always get the same thing: Jajangmyun (friend black bean noodles), pajeon (the fried seafood pancake), and daeji bulgogi (spicy pork). Menu is not easy to understand or read, and there are no pictures, but the service is good.
