We arrived around 12:30 and the parking lot was almost full. Since Waldo’s shares a parking lot with Big Bad Breakfast, and it was lunchtime, I can understand why the lot was crowded. This location has the strangest parking configuration – parking is at the rear of the building. The actual restaurants face away from Montgomery Hwy. After driving around the building, I chose a spot in a gravel lot at the north end of the complex since I was in my truck. Not being familiar with the layout, we walked around the entire highway facing building before finding the main entrance to Waldo’s at the rear. (A word to the wise, the back parking area is in a notorious flood plain, so watch the weather).
Once inside, ordering is done at the back counter. Beer and cocktails are served from the rather large bar to the left of the entry. There was only one party ahead of us so we didn’t have to wait but a few minutes. My brother ordered the 1/4 white fried chicken with slaw, fries, cheese biscuit and lemonade. I chose the “Fowl Mouth” spicy chicken sandwich with potato wedges and lemonade. Our food came to the table in under 10 minutes.
My selection was excellent – Fried chicken thigh, habanero oil, cheddar, jalapeño slaw, mayo, and Comeback Sauce on a toasted bun. The potato wedges were steaming hot so I took a few bites of my sandwich first. Definitely spicy – which I really like. The combination of chicken, slaw, cheese and sauce was a perfect, flavorful match. The wedges were crispy outside and almost creamy inside. This was such a great lunch.
My brother also said his chicken was perfect. He even raved about the coleslaw. We both enjoyed the lemonade.
The menu has a lot of choices so I don’t think anyone would not be able to find something tasty to try. They even have “family” buckets large enough to feed the whole clan.
I highly recommend Waldo’s. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Also, don’t forget to notice the quirky artwork.
