I havent been to Waffle House in, like, over 10 years, and I dont eat pork anymore, so I didnt know what to expect going here again.
Not only did they have chicken sausage, as well as beef meat options, they also cook meats on separate equipment than other foods, and offered to cook our meat separate from where they cook the pork without us asking
The customer service was wonderful, they were attentive, friendly, gave detailed answers to our questions, and were patient with us as we looked over their menu thats very new to us.
Our server, Calder (who also cooked my delicious eggs), helped me figure out what I wanted to order, and was regularly asking us how we were dling, how the food was, and if we needed further assistance.
Every part of our experience tonight was just wonderful. I’m so glad we stopped by.
Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the behavior coming from the kitchen. An older female cook and a nearly toothless male cook were loudly joking around with an older man at the counter, making openly hateful, phobic remarks. It went far beyond uncomfortable. We overheard things like, “If you want me to address pronouns, I’ll just call you ‘pronoun,’” among other offensive and discriminatory comments I won’t even repeat here. It was truly disappointing and disturbing to hear this kind of rhetoric being shared loudly in a public place of business.
What made it worse was that the rest of the team—your younger staff—were working hard, being professional, and showing kindness. No one wants to sit and hear hate speech while trying to enjoy breakfast. We ended up quietly asking for our food to-go, just to get out of that environment.
A huge thank-you to the two waitstaff members for handling everything with such grace. I wish I’d gotten their names. We were there around 8:30–9am on 06/22/25. Management should seriously address the behavior of the two cooks—because no one should have to work or dine in an atmosphere filled with that kind of hostility. We won’t be back.
I get it is Saraland, Alabama, but it is still a restaurant and place of business. Do better.
