Iconic Italian Restaurant and Pizza Joint in South Bend. In the 1950’s people on the street would watch pizza dough be tossed in the window at the original location in downtown South Bend. Pizza wasn’t the only thing on the menu, great pasta dishes were offered. Still owned and run by the same family, the hand tossed pizza and baked pasta dishes remain favorites along with other menu options for different palates.
Traditional pizza, pasta, sandwiches & other Italian staples served in a down-to-earth atmosphere.

During a recent trip to the area for business, I found myself in a quandary. Many of the Restaurants that my lunch crew and myself like to visit were closed on Mondays. We went all the way from New Carlyle to the airport looking for a place to eat. One of the people in my group suggested Volcano, an Italian-Style eatery close to the airport. Off we went and luckily it was open. When I arrived, I went back in time a few decades, as this place has that older feel to it. Simplistically decorated but fully functional. We were fortunate enough to catch the tail end of lunch and were able to get seated right away. Once I perused the menu, our server suggested the Italian Beef sandwich with fries. I also got a side of gravy. Since we didn’t have a whole lot of time I was on point as the sandwich and the other items arrived fairly quickly. The Beef was tender and juicy, the bread fresh and all that gooey cheese made a very pleasant lunch. Give Volcano a shot, I will go back for dinner when I’m in the area again to try some other items, as it is known as a local favourite.
Here in South Bend. I am glad I did. I ordered the Italian style Philly cheese steak. I Highly
Highly recommend it.
