A great llittle Italian restaurant! I found the food to be equal to the excellent Italian restaurants in Boston and NYC. Four of us all had great meals and the service was also very good. We has gnocchi, eggplant parm, chicken cacciatore and chicken picatta. All were fabulous and the prices are very reasonable! Try the delicious desserts! We highly recommend Volare!

Excellent hidden gem! Pizza was amazing, packed full of toppings and piping hot. It was huge and that wasn’t even the biggest one. 4 of shared the special pizza and there were leftovers. Brother in law had the special mushroom ravioli and he raves about it. Cool place, great staff, delicious with fair prices!

Feels old school like a restaurant you grew up going to with your grandparents. Huge portions, delicious white pizza, haven’t had it like this since Connecticut. All homemade. Chicken piccata hammered so thin and tender. It’s a gem of San Diego.

This place kinda flies under the radar, but it’s a real gem. We’ve driven by for years and kept telling ourselves we should try it, and we finally did. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. The decor is simple and old, but clean, with a grandma’s kitchen feel to it. Most importantly, the food was all delicious, with generous portions. From appetizer to dessert, we loved everything and we were planning to return before we even left.

This place is a fantastic little hidden gem. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The decor is a little outdated and the food isn’t plated for Instagram. However, that’s part of the charm of this place. It has a quiet, slower-paced homey feel. Portions are generous, food is delicious. We were in town visiting and found it on Google maps. We loved it so much we came back a second time before out trip was over. If I find myself in the area again, I will be excited to return here for another lovely meal.

We arrived and there was a waitlist. Once we were seated, we noticed the place was small and quite crowded.
We placed our order and were quickly served bread and drinks, which was a nice touch.
When the food arrived, everything was absolutely delicious — really worth the wait!
The only downside was the service: the waitress who took care of our table didn’t seem to be in the best mood. However, the host who welcomed us was very friendly and made us feel at home.

On the outside, looking in from the street, Volare doesn’t look like much. There are some paint chips and general “run down appearance” so when I went inside the first time I was slightly hesitant. Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise! The warmth and homey atmosphere of this family friendly Italian restaurant makes me feel like I just walked into my grandmas house for dinner. The food is surprisingly good, and the atmosphere is refreshingly relaxed. You don’t have to dress up to appreciate some great pasta.

I have yet to order something that I couldn’t describe as “good” or “great”. Even when comparing Volare to higher class Italian restaurants in the area, the food is comparably excellent.

I frequent Volare and highly recommend it

This little family style restaurant is a must try, the food is fairly priced and worth the effort. The day we came was a little busy so they were not able to divide our checks, I recommend letting them k ow in advance so it’s not so difficult when paying. Other than that I can definitely return to this place for a nice hearty meal.

Edit: Returned to give this place another shot. This time I asked for a recommendation from the server and she recommended the chicken piccatta. This dish was so good. I ate all I could and still got a tiramisu for dessert. I recommend the chicken piccatta and my partner still recommends the eggplant parm.

1st visit:
The cozy atmosphere was very nice. One negative was that we were basically a part of the larger group seated next to us. Unavoidable for the size of the restraunt. The service was ok.

The appetizers, soup, and salad we had were good.

My partner got the eggplant parm and it was pretty good. I got the fettuccine carbonara and I thought it was bland. I found the ham used to be of inferior quality to what I would expect to be served at a restraunt.

This place is highly recommended so I will try eating here again and try a different dish.

Home-cooked Italian cuisine. This ain’t no chain restaurant, this is genuine family-owned and operated for nearly five decades. Ordered the Fettucine “alla Medditerano” served with sautéed shrimp and a bottle of Sicilian wine. It was fabulous!
Expect the food preparation to take a while, it is worth the wait.
Try the artichoke appetizers, so delish.
It doesn’t look like much on the outside, but take my word – this Italian restaurant is one of San Diego’s best eateries. Very popular.
I will definitely be returning with my whole crew ‍☠️ YARR!!!
