The plates are pretty big. I got Menudo, it was just OK. My son and DIL got chilaquiles and they really liked them
I live nearby and have visited Victoria’s about a dozen times now. I really want this place to thrive — the staff are kind, and when they’re on, the food can be great.
That said, consistency has become an issue. Early on, the beans had this perfect balance of butter, pepper, and spice — you could tell care went into them. Lately they’ve tasted more like they came straight from the can. I don’t mind canned beans, but they need that extra seasoning and richness that used to make them special.
Burritos are sometimes served with chips and sometimes not, which feels random. Pricing could also use a second look — $15+ for huevos rancheros or chilaquiles is steep, even these days, and Mexican sodas shouldn’t be marked up like rare imports in Southern California.
I’ve also been overcharged a couple of times or had items added to the bill that I didn’t order. Each time it was fixed politely, but that shouldn’t happen so often.
Please tighten up the professionalism and consistency, Victorias — I want you to succeed. You’ve got the potential to be the neighborhood spot everyone recommends.
I ordered the Cheese Enchilada plate, but instead, I was served Chicken Enchiladas. When we informed the waitress of the mistake, she didn’t apologize or acknowledge that she had taken the order down wrong. Instead of simply bringing out a new plate, she handed us a new dish and asked us to scoop the enchiladas from the incorrect plate onto the new one ourselves. This felt incredibly unprofessional and off-putting—no restaurant should expect its customers to scoop off the incorrect food for an order correction. Most waitresses would just take the entire plate back.
When the correct dish was finally brought out, it was clear the kitchen had put minimal effort into preparing it. The enchiladas lacked any proper presentation—no sour cream or cheese topping, just a haphazardly assembled plate. To make matters worse, the cheese used in the enchiladas tasted terrible, and the red sauce was overly reminiscent of tomato paste. When I asked what kind of cheese they used, I was surprised to learn it was mozzarella. Mozzarella is not an authentic Mexican cheese and felt entirely out of place in a dish like this. Oaxaca cheese would have been better.
To top it all off, when the cashier asked if everything was okay, it felt perfunctory—there was no acknowledgment of the barely touched plate or our dissatisfaction. On top of that, we were charged higher menu item prices than those listed on the menu, apparently due to credit card surcharges. Each item rang for a higher price than just one surcharge at the end. For a $15.99 enchilada, adding extra credit card surcharges by inflating menu item prices felt excessive and unjustified, especially for the quality of food and service we experienced.
Overall, this visit was deeply disappointing, and unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
He had chicken hard shell tacos, I had asada, as well as asada fries, lemonade and an Orange Fanta.
The Fanta ice cold and great as always. The lemonade just okay. Tge tacos and fries were dry and meat over cooked. We were the only customers at the time.
Lesson learned, go to Taco Hut!
