We enjoyed the chips and guacamole, scallops, filet mignon tacos (Friday only), and yummy cocktails. I wanted to order the octopus fritters but was unfortunately outvoted.
Our server was so nice! He had great suggestions and was so friendly.
There are lots of 2 hour street parking spaces in front and also a parking deck around the corner (the website says they validate for three hours of parking).
I originally called to make a reservation for 5:00 PM, but I was informed that the closest available time was 4:30 PM, so I accepted that time and arrived punctually. Since some of my family members were arriving a little later, I ordered appetizers and cocktails while waiting for them.
About 30 minutes later, around 5:00 PM, the manager, J, approached our table and mentioned that the table had another reservation and that this had supposedly been explained during the phone call. However, I do not recall being informed of any time limitation. When I asked if there was a time limit for our table, he explained that another reservation was scheduled for 7:30 PM and that they would need about 30 minutes to prepare the table.
While I certainly understand that restaurants must manage reservations, bringing this up at 5:00 PM felt unnecessary and created a sense of being rushed, especially considering how much time remained before the next reservation. In the end, my family arrived, we enjoyed our meal, and we left before 7:00 PM.
I do want to highlight that our waitress was excellent—attentive, professional, and very pleasant throughout the entire evening.
As for the food, the appetizers, grilled oysters, and guacamole were very good. Unfortunately, the main dish (shown in the photo) was disappointing, as the salmon was quite dry. I work in the restaurant industry myself—while not in the kitchen, I am part of the staff—and in my opinion the food is somewhat overpriced for the quality.
Our group was seven people and the total bill exceeded $600. My intention in sharing this feedback is simply to encourage a more welcoming and thoughtful approach from management, so that the level of service matches the otherwise lovely setting of the restaurant.
The food was exceptional — fresh, vibrant, and beautifully executed. The beef fajita was just perfect. The flavors were bold yet balanced, showcasing modern takes on Mexican cuisine without losing authenticity
The atmosphere was lively but comfortable — perfect for a special gathering. For our birthday celebration, the staff made sure we felt the moment was special without going over the top. It struck just the right balance between warm and festive.
One of the highlights of the visit was our waiter. He was attentive, friendly, and intuitive about what we needed. He not only knew the menu well (and offered great recommendations), but also handled the birthday surprise with grace and enthusiasm. He made us feel celebrated, not like an item on a checklist.
If you’re looking for great food, a stylish setting, and staff who truly care — especially for a celebration — VERDAD is a top pick in Austin. We’ll definitely be back!
Food was mostly outstanding. Only entree we had that was just OK were the ribs. They were kinda sad in presentation and preparation. Over cooked and basically a bad bbq experience with very little Mexicanishness to them. Could be a solid offering if more of a Mexican rub like a good ancho base or similar and accompanied with garnishes to pull the meat and make some solid tacos with.
Octopus app was outstanding and perfectly done and well seasoned
Salsas and guac are solid
Lobster quesadilla about that you’d expect. Honestly would prefer more lobster forward and less cheese.
Glad the rellenos were not breaded and were grilled. I love Poblanos and when breaded thr dish, to me, loses the poblano essence which is a shame.
Brussels are a big miss for me. Not much Mexican influence here. It’d like them more grilled and crisp, more chili forward and like a cojita or queso fresco, or a Mexican chili crisp, or a citrus habenero… sofaking bueno!
Definitely would give this place a nother run and probably lean more to the traditional Mexican offerings next time.
Valeria, the events coordinator is a dream to work with – communicative, knowledgeable and very helpful. On the day of the event, she checked in multiple times to make sure things were going smoothly. I really appreciated the personal touch. All of the other staff that helped us at the event were amazing as well, and so hospitable.
We were able to add small personal touches to the event space, and it was really nice to have that flexibility.
The food at Verdad is excellent, and my guests could not stop raving about the drinks, appetizers and desserts we served at the event. For some of my guests, it was their first time dining at Verdad, and they’ve already gone back since with their friends and family.
I loved the chicken tortilla, but they really skimp on the portion and the noodles in it are kind of weird tasting (I love dish society’s chx tortilla)
I’d try something else next time!
But DEFINITELY the Guac
