I worked with Dawn to host a group dinner for 17-20 people over the last few months and it was a wonderful experience! Dawn’s attention to detail and amazing service was truly unique and personalized to create the best possible experience for my guests. She recommended a very comfortable, beautiful room with stunning decor and a view into Vera Mae’s wine cellar.

The menu was fantastic and all the food was delicious. The portions are generous and include bread and a side salad. I can’t say enough about our incredible staff who helped, a team of 2-I am searching for their names as I post this. Truly magnificent experience! Thank you!

I always come for the French Onion Soup. The meals are expensive, but sign up for rewards to get credit and emails.
The ceiling are ginormous and a bit dusty, look above you when they seat you.
Worth a visit. 🙂

Had dinner and watched the Christmas parade. French onion soup as usual is to die for. The stuffed salmon was excellent. Wine offerings are numerous. As always Stacy is a wonderful server.

Always great food at Vera Mae’s! The filet with blue cheese was the best steak around! The mashed potatoes were flavorful and the asparagus were perfectly grilled!

We participated in the destination, Muncie, four course meal. Where we ordered two entrées stuffed salmon, the other of the porterhouse pork chop. The stuffed salmon was cooked to perfection. The pork chop was overcooked and tough. The shrimp cocktail consisted of two tiny 24 count shrimp. The bread pudding had the consistency of chunky oatmeal. I guess it was a scraping from the bottom of the pan. Very disappointing. We expect their “A” game every time we go to Vera‘s.

My first trip was this week. Went during the Muncie Eats event and enjoyed the price fix menu (upgraded to the steak). Food, service and drinks were outstanding. We will definitely be back.

I went to Vera Mae’s on a Monday evening, or maybe a Tuesday. The days blur together in winter. The place was empty. Not the kind of empty that feels sad right away. The good kind. It was us and one other table, strangers moving quietly through their own meal. Because of that, they sat us by the fireplace. The fire burned steady. It mattered.

I ordered the cheese appetizer. A small board. A good spread. Cheeses with names you do not rush through. Soft ones. Sharp ones. Things that ask you to slow down and pay attention.

Then the steak came. Or eventually came. Forty minutes passed, or something that felt like forty minutes. It was strange given how few people were there. Still, when it arrived, it was worth the wait. The steak was serious. Heavy. Cooked exactly how I asked.
One of the best steaks I have had. The garlic mashed potatoes did not survive long. They were eaten, swiftly and without ceremony.

The service was warm and kind. Not forced. The kind that makes you feel welcome without hovering. One small thing. I wish they had beer on tap. They do not. But the bottle and can selection is solid.

The steak costs about what the steakhouse next door charges. But here there are other dishes that cost less. More choices. More paths through the menu. There is also a kids menu. They serve a mean grilled cheese.

I enjoyed the evening. I really did. I left full and calm. I was also a little sad to see the place so empty. It deserves more people sitting by the fire.

I have been to Vera Mae’s Bistro several times (6 at least) so I think I can give an honest review.

Food: most meals are delicious but pricey. Avoid the charcuterie. The name is French for a specific type of meat but the U.S expectation is a plate with a mix of cheese, meat and crackers. You will only get the meat, some crackers, pickled onions and some nuts that gave me a strange rash on my face.

Drinks: Great cocktails!

Atmosphere/service: the service depends of course on who is your waitress. Two times, the manager ignored me while speaking with the rest of my party.

My wife and I enjoy trying new places and we decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary here at Vera Mae’s Bistro. Had a great time – it was warm enough to sit outside and there was only one other table occupied but was vacated before we got our food so it was like we had a private place all to ourselves, which was fun.

The dinner rolls that came out while we were waiting for our main course were average, but still good. After that everything steadily improved and provided an elevated experience worthy of a celebration. Salad was fresh, dressing was good, and starting with French onion soup, the food was very tasty and fun to eat. We both got different chicken dishes, and they were something to go back for. Presentation was nice and we had fun evening together. We both ordered creme brulee for dessert and it was actually a little different flavor than we expected but made well and we loved it.

Service was friendly and knowledgeable, which was expected at this level of venue, but doesn’t always happen these days so that was nice. Overall, this is a great value for the cost. This doesn’t necessarily fit our frugal food budget but for a celebration meal this was very well worth the cost.

Definitely check out Vera Mae’s Bistro!
