Social Profile:

Velvet Belly serves coastal cuisine from around the world. This broad base of inspiration gives way to a diverse menu featuring the classic seafood traditions of New England, the fresh rusticity of Pacific Northwest fare, the comfort of the American South’s Lowcountry, the customs and inventiveness of Japanese sushi, and the heritage of the many fishing villages of Italy, France, and Spain. To complement our focus on high-quality wild seafood, we use natural wood fire grilling for our limited, high-quality selection of meats. Velvet Belly serves up unexpected and fun-loving cocktails, a thoughtful selection of wines, and microbrews. Located in the Rochester Public Market, we are proud to join a thriving food + beverage community.

This is a place where food is worth the money. All the dishes we tried were flavorful. Their prices are reasonable for seafood and the portion sizes are just the right amount. We tried sushi nacho, which is one of the best nachos I’ve had! Lobster roll was delicious, so was the grilled fish dish (specialty of the day). Tried both cocktails and non alcoholic drinks, everything was amazing.

Went to Velvet Belly last night .. all I can say is wow. Atmosphere, service, and food were impeccable. The GM Doug made sure our first experience was special .. and our server was so attentive and knowledgable. Bravo I’ll definitely be back with the whole family!

Wonderful food and great service. Would recommend coming early in the night as they do run out of the specials. Great atmosphere. They do charge an “Administration Fee” in addition to the gratuity, and the prices are quite high.

My son got me a gift certificate for my birthday for dinner. What an unbelievable experience. Absolutely fantastic. My wife and I love to eat out and are so glad that we were introduced to this restaurant. We will be going back sooner than later. Loved it!

Velvet belly is one of those rare restaurants in which you can order any item on the menu and know it will be good. Never had a bad experience there. Their service is impeccable as well. My favorite dish is by far the beef tartar, it’s one of the best foods I’ve ever had. Their oysters are always very fresh and all the appetizers are great. Their sushi is not my favorite in the area, it’s not bad at all, but isn’t the best, which is understandable since they’re not a sushi restaurant per se. I would avoid the sushi and go with the other dishes in their menu. Their drinks are also amazing, my favorite is fuzzy momo.

One of my favorite places in the city. You can count on excellent cocktails and delectable food. The menu changes from time to time but you can always get Smoked Gouda and Cauliflower gratin (pro tip: add lobster) and Jesse’s salt bread. The rest are all worth experimenting with. Chef Jeremy does not miss!
