Honestly the best vegan restaurant in South Bay serving a mix of Asian-based foods and also Western-based foods. Best dishes are the Eggplant Sizzle and Stroganoff, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the dishes with all dishes VERY reasonably priced.

Note that it’s takeout during weekdays and the dining room is open during weekends. They do have a nice parking lot with ~20 spots

The food is flavorful and comes out quickly. They’re very accommodating of allergies and can remove ingredients most times and showcase which allergies are in the food. The staff are friendly and quite attentive, although you do grab your own tableware from a communal table.

What can I say? I mean, what did I learn upon my visit to this restaurant? Read the negative reviews as well. We chose this place coz I thought it’ll be great. I mean, sure the food was great, no doubt about that. However, this is not an indoor dine-in restaurant during weekdays, but rather an outdoor dine-in one (-0.5). There’s a QR code on the tables where you can scan it and order. Not really great honestly, especially if you’re worried about privacy and also data collection. You have no choice but order using the QR code. (-0.5)
It’s also somehow self-service where you go pick up your food at the counter once you get a text (why did I even tip) and you put your stuff on the trash after you eat. There’s water on the side, so help yourself with that. (-0.5)
There’s no restroom (-0.5) to go to once they close the restaurant (which they do at certain times and the reopen later). It was very inconvenient. We have to find a nearby place where we can use the restroom afterwards.

Love the delicious vegan food and choices. They have outdoor seating which feels warm and cozy. Staff – Lorna was very friendly and helpful. Their portions are very generous. Highly recommend this place.

!!!Please Read!!! !!UPDATE 12/11/25!!

Look I won’t leave a vegan place less than 5 stars because we need them all… but I will tell the truth. I ordered the stroganoff and when you picture something and describe it in a way that it does not come out it’s not cool. The stroganoff is pictured with this CREAMY WHITE sauce, and described as such, and it came out brown and extremely runny. Like water runny. Taste is pretty bad too. The bread was good!… but it’s hard to mess that up. Would not have ordered this and paid $25 (got the extras and tax) if it reflected the truth. I didn’t even end up eating any. My buddy, who’s not vegan, enjoyed his very much however. He got the joyful tofu. Just don’t order the stroganoff… you will be dissatisfied. Outside dining only except on weekends. The owners are friendly.

UPDATE: So my coworker has been dreaming of that Joyful Tofu, he really liked it because he’s hard to please, and wanted to go back next time we were in town. They have such a large menu, so I wasn’t opposed to giving them another try especially when I kinda blame myself for ordering Stroganoff from a heavy Asian menu which is obviously their forte. So this time I got the Spring roll noodle dish….and my GAWD!!! One of the best things I’ve eaten!! So they definitely redeemed themselves and then some!! It was phenomenal! Thank you so much! My belly is full and extremely happy! Updated the review to reflect this amazing experience!

We walked for 30 minutes from our hotel, filled with high hopes for our meal at Vegetarian House Vegan, which boasted an impressive 4.6 rating on Google Reviews. Upon our arrival, however, we were informed that indoor dining was only available on weekends, leaving us with the outdoor seating option. Initially, we tried to remain optimistic and chose a table, but to our dismay, we were met with a strong smell of urine in that area. We quickly moved to another table, hoping for a better experience.

Next, we attempted to place our order via the QR code, but the process proved frustratingly slow. After about 20 minutes, we still encountered issues with card payment, adding to our stress as we were on a tight schedule for medical appointments.

To make matters worse, our meals were served on disposable plates, bowls, and utensils—something we hadn’t anticipated based on the reviews we read. Regardless of whether these disposables were biodegradable, it detracted significantly from the dining experience. Eating from proper plates and using real cutlery enhances the enjoyment of a meal, and the use of disposables reminded me of the less favorable takeaway experiences during the pandemic. Thankfully, we always carry our own stainless steel chopstick set, which at least provided some comfort.

Now, let’s discuss the food itself. We ordered Bun Hue, stir-fried mixed vegetables, and Malaysian fried curry noodles. As someone from Malaysia, I was particularly looking forward to the curry noodles, but I was disappointed to find them overly saturated with coconut milk—far from the authentic flavors I know. Both noodle dishes were excessively soggy, and the Bun Hue soup had a taste that was quite peculiar. The only redeeming dish was the mixed vegetables, which were nicely prepared.

Overall, the experience felt more like dining in a national park without proper amenities, rather than enjoying a meal at a well-reviewed restaurant. It was disheartening to miss out on what could have been a wonderful dining experience in San Jose.

We went here for Mother’s Day lunch! Even though it looks crowded we didn’t have to wait for long, it’s a big place. It seems very popular people kept coming in constantly. We had mango salad, mushroom kebab, pot stickers, and for main course pineapple fried rice and spicy mambo, everything was great, tasted amazing. We also had vegan desert, they have couple of options, we ordered strawberry cloud cake. It was delicious! Really enjoyed the vibe and food here, we will be back

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five Stars – New Favorite Spot!

Vegetarian House has officially become my new favorite place. I just finished the Blessing Bowl, and it was absolutely amazing. The savory vegan protein paired perfectly with the kimchi, fresh cucumber, and pickled carrot & daikon, all served over fragrant jasmine rice and topped with sesame seeds. Even better—it’s gluten-free and full of flavor.

Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and incredibly satisfying. The staff was also very kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. If you’re looking for delicious vegan food in San Jose, I highly recommend this place. I’ll definitely be back!

My partner and I picked up our vegan and gluten free best friend from the airport and sought refuge from the rain and a hot meal here. We used to live in downtown and never got around to trying this place, which had been recommended to us quite a few times. Can’t believe we waited this long!

There’s just an air of coolness that oozes from this building, which has a lot of character. That, and one of the ladies who works here (one of the owners maybe?) has the coolest glasses I’ve ever seen. All the staff we spoke with were so sweet and lovely to chat with.

My partner got the guru curry and my best friend and I tried the stroganoff – the stroganoff was great, but that guru curry was fantastic and I’m sincerely still thinking of it three weeks later. The food is delicious, hearty, filling, rich in flavors and textures, and I’m quite picky when I try vegan/vegetarian dishes. Portions are generous, especially for their price – makes sense as I believe the intent is for them to be able to be shared family-style (though my partner was loath to share the curry once they picked up on the fact I liked it more than my own dish!)

Hoping to come back for another visit soon!

We used the catering service for a party of 30 guests. The food was absolutely delicious. The presentation (it arrived hot and each dish was clearly labeled) was perfect, and the delivery process was so friendly and generous and helpful!
All of our guests were delighted and asked about the restaurant. It is worth noting that many guests were not vegan or even vegetarian, but still found the food memorably satisfying.
Wonderful, just perfect!

As a regular omnivore, the vegan options at this restaurant did not make me miss meat. On the contrary, some of the items, if I was not told what they were, I would have not guessed they were vegan.
I actually did not enjoy the desserts so I can’t recommend them, but my favorite dishes that we tried were the Queens Joy, Spicy chacha (not actually that spicy), the crispy mushrooms and the caulipower. I would gladly go back for any of those dishes. The mango salad was also nice. Everything in general was yummy so you can’t really go wrong.
The staff were very friendly and nice to us, even though we were a big group.
I didn’t get to take pictures of some of the dishes because our group ate them so fast.
