My dad got the Dhaba Chicken curry (5/10 spice level) and really liked his. My husband and I got the Butter Masala Chicken and we both approved!
Warning… there spicy is SPICY! We got a 5 and an 8 … next time we will get a 5/6.
Butter chicken is excellent, sweet and spicy
We liked it so much we used them to cater for our son’s engagement!
Our extended family includes restrictions about GF Vegan, Vegetarian options, no seed oil, Jain (no onion or Garlic) which often makes going out to dinner not worth the hassle. However, we’ve consistently been able to have all these conflicting needs met at this location.
Ghee roasted Masala Dosa is a favorite as is the Kadai Curry! Today we had the Chole, Dry fried Paneer, Ghee Roasted Plain Dosa and Ghee Roasted Masala Dosa. All were Superb!
Food is authentic tasting with generous proportions and even on a busy Saturday night wait time wasn’t too bad and the place was packed.
We ordered Kadai Mushroom, butter naan, onion kulcha and chole with the carrot halwa as dessert and everything tasted amazing and fresh. It is on the spicier side (even as an Indian with a good spice tolerance), I ordered a level 5 but will try a 2-3 next time ☺️ Thanks for the great food, we will be back!!
However, the malai kofta was a big disappointment. We ordered it toward the end since we were short of one sabzi, but it lacked flavor completely. The gravy was watery, and the kofta balls themselves had no taste, which really brought down the meal.
They also had limited chapatis available, likely because it was close to closing time. Overall, it was an okay experience — decent food but nothing special or memorable to boast about.
Vayal’s is an excellent spot for authentic South Indian food in Phoenix! The dosa was perfectly crispy, the sambar was flavorful, and we really enjoyed the paneer sizzler as well. Overall, everything was very good and the experience was delightful. Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving South Indian flavors!
