I was initially excited to try Vaux PDX after seeing the menu online — it looked great with lots of options. Unfortunately, the reality was very different.

Dinner:
When we arrived, we asked someone in the restaurant for a dinner menu and were told it was “on the counter.” The “menu” consisted of just a few items — chicken and beef skewers, a couple pizzas, and maybe one or two other things. We later learned dinner service had actually been discontinued some time ago.

We tried the beef skewers and were extremely disappointed. We paid $30 for two orders that probably added up to no more than 2 oz of meat total, with absolutely zero flavor. Would not recommend at all.

Breakfast:
Breakfast had a much bigger menu, so we were hopeful. But the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the avocado toast for $18 and got maybe 1/5 of an avocado, a couple poblano peppers, and four tiny slivers of grapefruit. Pretty underwhelming.

Staff:
The staff seemed uninterested and not helpful — like they didn’t want to be there. The setup is basically self-serve: you order at the bar, grab your own cutlery, condiments, etc. The wait staff only brings the food and clears the tables. When we asked for cutlery and ketchup, we were told to get it ourselves from the counter.

Overall, the hotel really needs to update their website to reflect what the restaurant actually offers now. This was not the experience we expected at all and it was hugely overpriced for the value you receive.

We stayed at Canopy and had breakfast at Vaux both days – Vaux Breakfast on the first day and pancakes the next. We also tried the tapas one evening (grilled sirloin skewers). This location doesn’t have a full menu after breakfast – only tapas in the afternoon/evening. While the food was OK, it was pretty basic (taste) and overpriced. The breakfast was just OK and the beef skewers were bland and overall, the value didn’t match the taste.

One thing to note is that the restaurant is essentially self-serve, aside from when you place an order and they bring it out. With so many other dining options nearby, I wouldn’t recommend Vaux. You’re likely to find a better experience and tastier food elsewhere… and at a better price.

Stayed at the Canopy hotel and received dining credit so I had breakfast and dinner at Vaux. The challah French toast sounded promising but was underwhelming. It was probably the thinnest French toast I’ve ever had, though the flavor was pretty good. The pecan butter was disappointing. It was almost chalky.
The happy hour pizza was a good deal. The pizza of the day was white sauce with bacon and spinach. Crust was not too thick and nice and crispy. It may have been floured too much though.
With all the other dining options available in PDX, I don’t know if I’d go out of my way to come here, but it’s worth checking out if you’re already at the hotel.

Hm. Nice staff but so disorganized that I sat for 35 minutes waiting on breakfast before having to leave. Two people after me in line received their (similar) orders before me.
Looks like they have one tiny kitchen area and aren’t staffed for any significant demand.
Looks like management has decided that (partially) complimentary food isn’t worth an investment in staff or space.

Again, staff were very nice, just working unsupported.

The staff would rather die and stay focused on tasks rather than acknowledge a customer, let alone wait on one. There is now only counter service but they don’t tell you that so you could be sitting at a table waiting for 10 or 15 minutes for a waiter to come but it’s not gonna happen.

The pictures of the menu are very out of date. The food menu now consists of five or six items and mostly their snacks. At dinner, There’s a couple of weird pizza things and some other things. For breakfast, there’s some bagel sandwich sandwiches. The entire assortment is grossly overpriced no matter what time of day it is.

The wine pours are decent, though I think your luck with a mix bring all depends on whose pending bar. I just watched a girl make it Apperal spritz without Prosecco and using Perrier and Sauvignon Blanc.

Way more than a hotel bar! The food and drinks here are fantastic. Lead bartender, Chuck Ward, has mastered the craft of the Old Fashioned. Easily one of the best I’ve had. Meanwhile Sous Chef Zack has brought in his own family sausage recipe that elevates an already hearty breakfast menu.

There’s plenty of space for events or just relaxing with friends. High quality establishment here, there just happens to be a hotel (a very modern, comfortable hotel with incredible staff) attached.

Would not recommend at all for Black/African American patrons. Blatant racism and refusal of service from Maira when trying to order breakfast. We were told to go to a different order spot on the side away from the main register then we were told we couldn’t order as they started taking orders from people who came after us.

0 stars if I could.

Went here for some dinner tonight and ordered the wings, which were delicious! They toss it in a peach buffalo sauce that made my mouth water. Not to mention the atmosphere was relaxing and peaceful. A great way to end a Monday!

Awesome food! Even better drinks! We got an old fashioned, a Sazerac, the halibut, and the short ribs. The food was awesome, fork tender for everything. Haley made the best old fashioned I’ve ever had, and that’s my go to drink. Definitely worth the visit whether you’re local or visiting.
