Vaso’s Mediterranean Bistro is a fine dining restaurant serving Greek-inspired cuisine. Our dishes are generous meals, selected and prepared by Chef Vaso Voliotis herself (and her crew), featuring a range of authentic, housemade salads, gyros, platters, filo-based appetizers, and mouthwatering entrées. Most of the recipes are from family’s tradition which was tweaked by Chef Vaso to reach that extra level of awesomeness. Come to taste our exquisite Lamb Kapama, Lamb chops, Baked Moussaka, Greek Samplers, Baked Branzino (Sea Bass), Stuffed Flounders, homemade pastas, among other delicious veal and poultry selections, which is our signature.

Chic, cozy bistro serving Greek & Italian eats such as gyros & shrimp scampi, plus wine & cocktails.

This cozy, family-owned bistro in Old Town Alexandria specializes in authentic Greek & Mediterranean dishes with Italian influences. I visited on a slow Sunday evening, and the staff was very polite and prompt in bringing drinks and taking the orders.

Each table is provided water, bread, and olive oil for dipping. The entree I chose is a Baked Moussaka, and my friend the Chicken Souvlaki Platter. Both meals were prepared and served in a timely manner. The food was fresh with quality ingredients. The Moussaka had a mixture of potato with the sirloin which made an interesting spin on a traditional lasagna dish. The chicken on the platter was juicy and tender.

The meal was in the mid-twenties in price which seems typical for this type of restaurant. The portions being a little smaller than I’d like for the price, but not disappointing. I believe this is an ideal place for a lunch or dinner date, especially if you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine.

A small, pleasant place for lunch. The Watermelon Salad ($25) was good and refreshing, but a bit pricey. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Stopped by for dinner and where seated upstairs. Very cute atmosphere and they turned down the music as customers arrived.

As it was a blustery night every time, the front door downstairs opened the cold air pushed upward and made I very chilly.

Service was attentive and lovely. The food was plenty and tasty. The gyros meat was dry (as another customer mention in a review). Overall a nice experience.

We stopped by this conveniently located spot for a quick dinner. The ambiance is pleasant, with good people-watching opportunities. Service was prompt and courteous.

The food, however, was a bit underwhelming. The gyro meat was dry and the appetizer platter, while edible, lacked flavor and felt like a grocery store salad bar. If you’re looking for a simple, very basic dining experience for mild palettes, this place might be a good option. I would be willing to try some of the other menu options but do not plan on returning soon.

Very small resturant, that makes it very cozy. The staff was very attentive and the food was good. I ate lamb would love to go back and try the fish dishes.

We had such a lovely time here tonight and I cannot believe I haven’t been here before! This might be my new hangout spot. What lovely staff, delicious drinks and food, ideal location, lovely decor and ambiance. Management goes out of their way to make you feel at home and even give excellent recommendations for the best dishes and drinks. Tonight we had fresh crab stuffed mushrooms and spinach pastry. We had cocktails and wine and each was more delicious than the next. This is such a hidden gem in old town and I cannot wait to be back to see Charles, Johnny, and Theodora.

They’re probably short on staff, but we still got seated pretty quickly. Bread and olive oil are unbeatable!

We had halloumi for appetizer. It’s a perfect balance of protein and veggies, very refreshing.

I like my chicken veryyyyyy dry so the chicken souvlaki was perfect for me. The rest of the meal was great, too.

This place used to be so good to eat and it tasted authentic. Either the chef has gone downhill or they changed the chef. Today, I ordered a $30.00 trout with green beans. My green beans were over cooked and wilted. My fish was tasty but there was humongous amount of oil. Now my stomach hurts.

We came for New Year’eve dinner. It was bad! The service was horrendous. Basically non existent service, plates and utensils were left Took an extremely long time for everything. Plates were served to some of us, and others had to wait 15 minutes for theirs. The food was not bad, but far from great. IT WAS EXTREMELY OVERPRICED. And, only one bathroom with a single toilet and sink to wash hand for the ENTIRE restaurant. There was a 10+ minute wait. They definitely did poorly tonight. I will never return nor do I recommend anyone eats here.
