Want to know where not to go? This place.
There are better options in this small town, and I’d choose any of them over this one – every time AND that’s only after one experience.
Let me break it down:
We called twice before placing an order. The first time was to ask about a half sheet pizza. The second time, they answered the phone with just “HELLO.” No business name, no professionalism – it threw us off, wondering if we even called the right place.
We went ahead and ordered a half sheet and a 17-inch pizza. When I arrived for pickup, they claimed we ordered a full sheet – we absolutely did not. The person behind the counter refused to hear anything else. To make it worse, the toppings were on the wrong sides of both pizzas, and the order was completely wrong. (Noticed after we got it back to the house)
The bill? NINETY SIX dollars for two pizzas.
Every topping was an extra $3 to $6—no joke. (Reciept attached)
While we were waiting, we saw a family eating in. They got their pizza in boxes, dropped on their table without a word. They had to go to the counter multiple times to ask for things that should’ve been provided. You could see their frustration.
Bottom line:
Customer service – thumbs down
Prices – outrageous
Experience – disappointing
Go somewhere else—you’ve been warned.

In town for the weekend and stopped into Vargo’s for pizza and wings. Absolutely delicious and authentic Buffalo style. So much so that we ate there the next day to try the Subs. They were also incredibly good – and he makes the sub rolls fresh every day. The owner, Robert, is friendly and his staff did a great job. Restaurant is meticulously clean. The view of the river is spectacular. Will come here every time we are in town.

I can tell the owner is really trying. The service from the two younger boys working there was bad. They forgot to start our pizza after 40 mins. It was taking absolutely forever. But there’s a difference between places who know their service is lacking and places who think “Not my problem.” The owner was very apologetic.

The white pizza is literally to die for, cooked to perfection every single time! The home made sub rolls are the next best thing. They are so delicious, I could literally just eat it with butter! The owner is a great guy with an amazing personality and aims to please his customers. I always love to have good conversation when stopping in for the best food in town! Don’t hesitate to call vargos. Its my only go to place!

I recently became a local and as a busy single mom, I am always looking for a fast and effortless way to feed my family on those busy weekdays of clubs, sports, etc. Pizza has always been my go too. I saw Vargo’s was NY style pizza and knew we had to try it. We were not disappointed. The crust was crispy, the toppings tasted fresh, and the size for the money was on point. This quaint pizzeria is nestled by the water with breathtaking views, and a menu to die for. Dinner and a view what more could you ask for?! I highly recommend you stop by and check it out if you are new to town or passing through. I promise you will not be disappointed. The owner was so responsive, caring and the staff was friendly and helpful. Trust me you will not regret it!

Vargo’s Pizza is an absolute gem! The crust is perfectly crisp on the outside and chewy inside, and the sauce has that perfect balance of tangy and sweet. Every ingredient tastes fresh — from the gooey mozzarella to the flavorful toppings. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the service is always quick, even on busy nights. Whether you’re grabbing a slice for lunch or ordering a full pie for the family, Vargo’s never disappoints. Highly recommend the pepperoni

We were driving one day to go to Keaton Beach we’re from Branford I seen the pizza place I asked my husband to swing back around so we can grab some pizza was it not only good it was fantastic the service was great. The second time we came out to Keaton Beach I again wanted to stop for in for pizza however this time I ordered a half a sheet a taco pizza and a large pepperoni pizza by the time I got home have to taco pizza was gone anyways it was that good it was so good that we made a special trip just to come back out here from Branford to get a full sheet taco pizza. If anyone from this day forward ask me hey do you know a great place for pizza I am definitely going to say Vargos it may be a ride but it’s well worth it guaranteed, the service the staff the atmosphere and the location may I add or all great.

Food was good. However there was a young gentleman at the counter working by himself when we came in. The person ahead of us made a very very confusing order. I was standing 2 ft away and still wasn’t sure what she actually ordered. The young gentleman then took our order and proceeded to the back to prepare orders. At this point an older gentleman came in and started helping in the back. Somehow something got messed up with the orders and the older gentleman started loudly scolding the young man. Saying everything was wrong. Some how our order was never made. We sat there for almost an hour waiting for our food. We watched customers come in ,order and leave with their food. I was quite disappointed considering the reviews were pretty good for this place and the food in the pictures online looked fantastic.

THIS IS A MUST EAT!! First time visitors to steinhatchee and we had nobody recommend this place to us, but we decided to stop by, let me just say our family of 6, didn’t leave a CRUMB. We got Pizza, Cold sub, and Wings, and it was all SPECTACULAR!!! ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!! and vargo is an amazing man! so personable and made sure we were all happy! talked to us and gave us so much information on the place!! EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO HERE!!!!!
