Van Winkles just dropped a new winter menu and it’s excellent. The jalapeño poppers were perfectly crispy with just the right heat, and the sausage & goat cheese pie was outstanding — rich, balanced, and perfectly crunchy. The vibe is cozy, service is friendly, and the beer is easily the coldest, cleanest pour anywhere around. Bonus points for happy hour from 4–6. Easily one of the best spots in Hunter right now.

Great place! Especially if you are staying at the resort, it is perfect to dine in. We loved the quality of the burgers; the buns were toasted and big, and the meat had a fresh taste and no grease or fat. The fries are so fun! I haven’t seen any place to use that cut, and since the taste is the same as the standard fries, it makes it a pleasant experience. The Kaatskills is a nice salad, especially with add-on chicken; pizza and bruschetta are great for appetizers or a pizza dinner if you wish. After eating in a few places in the area, we came to the conclusion that it was better to eat at Van W than anywhere else, taste and value-wise.

A decent option for food if you are staying at Katskill Mountain Club. Happy hour from 4pm to 6pm. Full bar but food options are limited. Do bring a bug spray if you plan to dine out in the garden area.

We were staying at the Hunter Mountain Resort and had a deeply disappointing experience at Van Winkles on December 26, 2024. The manager, Rachel, treated our family, including our 3-year-old daughter, in a rude and completely inappropriate manner, directly addressing our daughter in a way that made her cry and even throwing a plate onto the table, which could have caused harm. We also noticed discriminatory treatment toward us as Brazilian tourists, while American customers received noticeably better service. Despite apologies from the resort’s management, the manager’s behavior reflected a serious lack of professionalism that made it impossible for us to enjoy our meal. We do not recommend this restaurant until clear improvements are made in staff training and management.

Terrible experience! We had a reservation and we are staying in the hotel. Arrived 15 minutes late and they cancelled our reservation and another family also with small kids within the 15 minute grace period. The tables were given away to people without reservation and the restaurant was half empty but the host refused to seat neither our family nor ours (both with little kids) because he was “holding the reservation for others”.

This place is awesome. Everyone is so friendly and on top of their game, especially our server, Crosby.
The bar was hopping so there’s a good atmosphere.
They have a lot of options on the menu with many of them being homemade. All the food was delicious. I definently recommend coming here for dinner.

We have had good food here and we have eaten here many times. The menu is limited, but what is there is very good. Prices are reasonable for a ski lodge…most places gouge you…they get a premium, but not offensive. The quality almost justifies the price.

Went here in the “off season” during summer events. Was served a half-uncooked pork chop. Rest of food mediocre, but as expected for an on-site hotel. No complaints about service, as I can understand they run on a skeleton crew this month, but don’t kill me with raw pork, please.
If staying here I recommend getting a room with a kitchen and bringing your own food.
Also thank the staff for making me feel young; despite my graying hairs I got carded for the first time in many years.
