Van Atta was the cutest bar/speakeasy! If you are a group more than 2, I would recommend making a reservation. They have a really fun cocktail menu and a unique appetizer menu to snack on. We got the wagyu sliders that were EXCELLENT! Not really a dinner place, but a perfect place for drinks and apps!

What an amazing speakeasy. Van Atta is a hidden gem in Telluride. They have an adventurous and unique cocktail menu with something for everyone. My “Miners Union” was on point, and my date loved her “Tomboy Bride”, a cocktail with floral notes and a sprig of lavender for garnish. It takes its name from a historic dry goods and clothing store and its vibe from a prohibition era lounge. It’s the perfect place to escape.

Van Atta in Telluride feels like stepping into a perfectly preserved speakeasy, where sophistication meets subtle secrecy. The ambiance is refined without being pretentious, with fixtures that whisper stories of a bygone era while effortlessly supporting some of the most inventive cocktails around.
We only had drinks, but each one was a masterclass in balance and character, crafted with precision and a clear passion for the craft. The bar’s attention to detail, from the polished glassware to the carefully curated spirits, elevates the experience beyond your typical bar.
If this place truly dates back to 1886, it’s easy to imagine it as the favored haunt of discerning locals who appreciated quality and discretion in equal measure. Van Atta is a sophisticated gem – intimate, timeless, and utterly deserving of five stars.

Van Atta was a phenomenal cocktail bar experience in Telluride – so much so we went back 2 different nights during a 3 night stay. Frankly, I’d have thought Telluride would have more experiences like Van Atta by now (our last visit to Telluride was in 2016 and this review is from June 2025.) The interior space was dimly lit but inviting, and the bartenders/staff quite congenial. The drinks were strong, tasty, and the liquor selection fun. I highly, highly recommend that people go out of their way to grab a drink here after spending the day in town.

Upscale cocktail bar in downtown telluride with stunning views and a cute tiny patio where you can look at the mtns. Very cool old western vibe with low lighting and amazing service. Were able to sit down right away and we got yummy cocktails. Bar service was quick and we liked the drinks.

Amazing cocktails, great service, and cool decor. They gave us these delectable bon bons to help us celebrate a special occasion. Will be returning every time we’re in town.

Cozy location with nice drinks but the food disappointed me a little. Wagyu sliders didn’t have a flavor I loved and were quite pricey for what you got. Crispy artichokes were pretty decent whipper ricotta was a nice touch.
It was busy and they were about to stop serving food when we arrived, they were nice enough to seat us outside (at a very tiny table/railing) and made sure to let us get our food order in, which I appreciated, just wish if enjoyed the food more.
They are one of the few places open after 9pm in town which is a point in their favor.
