Ursa Minor is a restaurant located in the heart of Lopez Island, Washington, featuring a creative agrarian northwest cuisine in a casual atmosphere. We aim to serve as a destination that is uniquely Lopez, where one can come to have an experience that reflects the idyllic island setting. Chef Nick Coffey works closely with local farmers, fishermen and foragers to offer a cuisine that defines this unique landscape. While we enjoy the diversity that our climate affords, this choice limits our palate of ingredients. It forces us to think creatively, to explore new flavors snd better understand the ingredients of our region. We offer a constantly evolving menu of inventive small plates, which are great to be shared amongst family and friends.
Upscale island-sourced fare & a well-appointed wine list are served in a smart, serene space.

In addition to the restaurant, they have an adorable shop where you can buy gourmet pantry items. I may have waited too long to visit, but Ursa Minor will be one of my first stops the next time I’m on the island!
If the food is the soul of Ursa Minor, the staff are the heart and blood of the place. As I said before it’s an experience to eat here, and the staff are such a large part of it. Each waitress, bartender, chef, and even the dishwasher carries an energy of love and pride in what they do, and what they serve. Attentive without being overbearing, always seeming to be there when you need them but a distant background while you eat, drink, and chat with your table mates, allowing you to rest, relax, and enjoy yourself in their warm and inviting atmosphere. All brought together Ursa Minor on Lopez Island is a one of a kind place that showcases the best of its island local and warm welcoming version of elevated cuisine.
Very thoughtfully put together dishes, seasonable, fresh, and well balanced. Not an expansive menu but that makes decision making easier. Also the high quality is guaranteed.
It’s a husband and wife restaurant – we heard the husband is the chef and wife manages the restaurant. Guess you call that “family restaurant” but it’s a more urban, farm style setting than traditional family restaurants.
We had both of the appetizers on the menu: local Barn Owl bread with homemade butter (so delicious) and the shishito peppers in cream (very summery and refreshing).
We ordered 3 shareable plates for 2 of us and were so stuffed we couldn’t order their famous dessert. Our favorite was the beef in the picture. The steak were well seasoned and cooked perfectly for medium rare. They were placed on top of cucumber salad seasoned in yogurt sauce, again refreshing. The other plates were Grilled Snap Peas and Gnocchi. Their Gnocchi was recommended by the host of our cabin, and it didn’t disappoint!
The bartender deserves special recognition! She was so patient and creates beautiful cocktails. We loved the wine and Amaro flight she poured as well.
Such a beautiful place to enjoy dinner. Don’t forget to plan ahead with a reservation if you want to try their food!
The cold fried chicken is shockingly delicious (trust me) and I had a confit duck dish with roast eggplant and smoked carrot that magically tastes like the best BBQ sauce when you taste it all together. The chef is working magic. I ordered an off-menu drink from the bar that was similarly great. The best darn meal I’ve had in a long time!
The menu showcases a variety of dishes that highlight the local produce and ingredients. Perfectly cooked salmon, fresh vegetables, amazing and unique flavors and preparations
Service here is impeccable. The staff is welcoming, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. Raven was our main server, and they were all of that and just really nice. But all the staff were great as well.
Many reasons to visit Lopez, but I’d come here just to eat at Ursa Minor
