November 2025:
Stopped by for lunch. Ordered a miso salmon bowl and the chicken katsu sandwich. Both were very tasty .

The salmon bowl was quite a large portion. Dressing was good.

Chicken sandwich was interesting. Black beans added a nice element. Fries were thin and tasty.

Would definitely come back again.

My husband discovered this place where he’s able to order things he likes (great burgers and sándwiches, a good pasta, etc.) and I get to order what i enjoy, the salads and the bowls. We were welcomed by a friendly staff. I ordered their Asian salad with a grilled salmon. He ordered their orecchiette with chicken. Our food came within minutes of us finding a table. My salad was well-prepared. The dressing did not drown the veggies. It was not too sweet either (thank you!). The salmon was cooked just right. Tender and not dry at all. The pasta was al dente and coated well with a pesto-type sauce. The chicken went very well with it too! Kudos to the staff for recommending the combination. My only lament is they have nothing sweet to cap off the meal. Not even a good brownie or a chewy cookie. But maybe that’s what the ice cream place next door is for.

I have to say that this place gives much better quality food for the money than another restaurant up the street with similar offerings, where the proteins I would add to my salad (or included in a bowl) would be half the size of what I got at this establishment. I wonder if the less eye-catching counter might be too utilitarian for some diners. People do eat with their eyes first. I noticed the walls were mostly unadorned too. Maybe some posters of the great food might help stimulate some appetites?

I know the photos don’t do justice to how good outlets orders turned out. Trust me, they were yummy.

Urban Kitchen’s healthy twist theme resonates with me. We tried their Chimichurri steak $23, Nashville spicy chicken sandwich $19 and prawn kebab $11 with an iced tea $4 and Stella beer $7. All the food were prepared correctly and in a timely matter. The Chimichurri sauce made the steak even more enjoyable. It was this garlicky, green, parsley, olive oil and vinegar sauce. The Nashville spicy chicken sandwich wasn’t spicy at all. It was crispy with a juicy center breast. The best part was little french fries with the buttermilk ranch sauce. The grilled shrimps were OK. Service was excellent for an order at the counter and get a number, then they deliver to your table, style of restaurant. The only minor nit is they served Stella Artois beer with a chilled glass instead of the official Stella Artois chalice.

I really wanted to give this a five star rating, I tried really hard, but I’m pushing it to give them a solid four stars tonight.

Staff was great, friendly and efficient.

The guy at the register didn’t know what type of steak is in the steak dish (it’s skirt steak). To me, knowing your menu is a basic 101 question at work.

I debated between the steak dish and the barbecue blackened chicken and I ended up choosing the chicken.

I envisioned a piece of chicken … a whole piece of chicken. It advertises as gluten free so I didn’t ask for it to be made gluten-free. Unfortunately, they put a piece of bread on top of my food without asking me.

They did deliver it to my table, at which point I let them know that I had ordered the sweet potato fries and I was allergic to wheat.

They did not remake the dish, they simply took the piece of bread off, and gave me some fresh sweet potato fries.

Unfortunately, that really messed up the temperature of the food. By the time they brought it back, my chicken was cold, lukewarm at best, yet my sweet potato fries were piping hot and very good!

It was unfortunately a mediocre experience.

I’m giving extra credit for the guy who came up to answer the “ what kind of steak is on the steak dish” question. He was helpful and friendly.

Restaurant is 3.5 / 5 clean. The bathroom could really use attention. It needs deep cleaning, nothing that’s recent.

Even though they were not busy when I walked in, (8 pm on a Tuesday night) and they seemed to have plenty of staff, there were quite a few tables that had not been cleaned off and the floor needed attention.

I don’t think I’ll be back yet it’s a good option for a less expensive meal in the Burlingame area. This is a great, walkable town with lots of options to choose from!

This place is a scam. First of all the chicken is not blackened at all. There’s no flavor and there are no grains, except for a teaspoonful of rice. The kale salad had lettuce in it and no kale.. this place is cutting corners and there’s false advertising when you order online. The picture that’s shown in the description is not what you get. The manager doesn’t speak English well and tries to justify nonsense to reality. To me, it looked like they ran out of ingredients and just threw a bunch of stuff in the to go box. Do not recommend you go here or you’ll be wasting your money. Definitely don’t order to/go or DoorDash because they cut corners. What matters is what happens when things go wrong and this manager proved to be unprofessional. $35 wasted and no parking to pick up. It’s a NO.

Urban kitchen never disappoints. Our family loves this place. The food always satisfies and the customer service is exceptional! They manage to keep the place clean. Even on busiest days which are usually the weekends, they always deliver superb food and service. I always get the healer bowl with salmon instead of chicken (chicken is really good too) and I add avocado to my bowl. My little one who is a foodie loves the sunny rib eye burger. It’s tender, juicy and delicious! The healer bowl, aside from my mom’s dishes, has become my go to comfort food. It always hits the spot with its different textures and flavors. I never get tired of it and it literally is very healing with all the super anti oxidant ingredients. They have big servings. The bowls can easily serve two people. Buse, one of the owners is just a sweetheart! We keep coming back here not only for the food but because of the friendly service. Love, love, love! Highly recommended!

All the food we ate here were excellent. Fries were crunchy, chicken sandwich has plenty of flavor and juicy. My kids had the steaks and said it was tasty. They finished everything on the plate. A good place to eat on a date or hangout with a friend.

Urban kitchen is one of my favorite places to stop for a healthy meal in Burlingame! Their salads are inventive and delicious with a variety of options that are great for me as a vegetarian.

Their Brussels sprouts are so savory and delicious too, they’re marinated perfectly. Honestly, try them, they’ll change your life.

“Healthy” semi casual food spot but there are plenty of things you can order that aren’t that healthy – the Katsu chicken and Nashville chicken both felt a little too crunchy and crispy and fried.

The wraps were the thing to get here or the entree plates.

I do not recommend Urban Kitchen, and I do not understand how other people are.

My initial thoughts when I visited this “restaurant” last week was to give it 3 stars, but as I continued to think about it, I think it is deserving of 2. Let’s go through everything, shall we?

The service is extremely minimal. It operates more like some kind of cafeteria. You order by the cash register and get a table number, pick a table, and they bring you your food. That’s it. They do not even bring you your water- you have to grab it yourself.

This does not seem like an issue until you look at the prices. These are not even restaurant prices, these are like fine dining prices. Up to $10 for appetizers and $20-30 for main courses. It only gets worse when you finally see the portions. I ordered a mac-n-cheese appetizer because I refused to pay the abysmal price for any of the bigger entries, and it was served in the most shallow bowl I have ever seen. It did not even come with any sides or special toppings, unless those little crouton crumbs somehow make it worth that $10 price tag.

But wait, there’s more! It was not even good. It was horribly bland, and I could only finish half of my plate before I had to box the rest. I did not know cheese could even be that flavorless.

I truly cannot comprehend why Urban Kitchen has anything more than 3 stars on Google at most. If you do not mind paying a lot for food, good for you, but mediocre food? The only, and I mean only reason it does not get a 1 star is because the location and atmosphere was pleasant. That’s it. Oh, and the employees were fine, but they are not related to my review.

Cheers! 2/5.
