My friend and I both got severe food poisoning shortly after leaving the restaurant. The quality and freshness of the food was not the best. Sashimi pieces were still frozen. Highly disappointed and sick. Definitely should’ve listened to my intuitions. Will not be returning at all.

My daughter and I planned on another hotpot place in MG but it had a 75min wait. I remembered seeing that Upin was open nearby so we came for dinner. No wait time at 7pm. Seated quickly… we get two choice of broth.

Dining: plenty of seats and they had several tables good for groups of 6.
They had a bar for veggies and sauces
Well ventilated and lighting is on point.
Used iPad to order. Very simple and to the point.
Robo waiter brings out the order (super cute).

Food:
Perfect size for 2 ppl.
Soup bases: szechuan and bone broth were both very spicy and savory.
Meat cuts were perfect.
Order sushi and it was fresh and delicious.
All unlimited.
Wasteful food will have a $10.99 per pound charge. Its posted at the table which is fair. Dont order what you cant eat. Portion control order.

Parking: plenty of open parking

Upin is one of the BEST places to have hot pot in the Twin Cities. The meat is extremely thinly cut, tender, and fresh. If you like fish, I highly recommend to order the crispy fish fillet to be put in your hot pot. The blue crab was a bit difficult to eat (but that’s just me not knowing how to eat it). There is a very wide selection of sauces, as well as AYCE fresh oysters! I haven’t seen fresh oysters at other AYCE hot pot restaurants, and definitely would put Upin at the top of my hot pot choices. The service was also extremely friendly and speedy. The waiters and waitresses here are the most amazing people. We had a huge group of people come in, and they made sure each and every one of us were taken care of. If you come on your birthday you get a surprise dessert and a coupon for a $ amount of your total!! Highly highly recommend Upin!!

This place was so enjoyable to eat at! Everyone was so kind and would answer any questions you had. They happily explained everything when you didn’t understand. The owner was walking around being so kind! The food is delicious, you order on a tablet which is so convenient and don’t need to wait for an employee. The cute cat robot who brings your food is just a huge bonus. You get good amount of meat per order and it’s all you can eat. Their sushi was amazing and the vegetables were all fresh. This is such a fun place for families and friends. I so recommend

This is an AMAZING gem to have in the community!

I went for the first time this past Saturday night, and we were not disappointed. I was curious to see how much of the inside looked like the Baker’s Square, and it is seriously hard to tell. The only part they did NOT touch are the amazing curved sun windows – everything else is brand new(see photos and video)

The way that it works, is buffet style. You can pay one price for either sushi or hotpot, or for slightly more you can get both. DO get both! It is fun to put your potatoes and other longer cooking things in the hot pot, and then order some sushi(it came out SO fast each time!)

When you order hotpot, you can choose two different soup broths so you can have some flavor differences for variety. They will bring it out, and it will come to a boil at your table, and then you put your food into the broth, and pull it out when it is cooked to your liking. You do NOT have to have it spicy if you do not want it, or you could have 1 side be spicy, one mild, etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful with describing what everything is, so you can pick out what is best for you. We did half pork broth, and half miso(I told them I didn’t want meat, and they made it up for me special without the chicken stock, so do ask if you have things you are trying to avoid anything!) You order meat/noodles/fish from the tablets, but the veggies and dipping sauces are all on a help-yourself veggie counter, so you can pick out all of the best veggies and watermelon slices(absolutely ripe!) That you want to go in. Try the taro, they take longer to cook, similar to a potato, but are slightly sweet.

This is the perfect kind of interactive dining that is great for family outings, dates, and even taking older children to give them a sense of cooking in a group setting! There are so many combinations, it would be hard for anyone to not find SOMETHING they don’t like, ya know?

My family gave it a try, but we didn’t think the dinner menu was worth for us. Maybe we will try the lunch menu next time.

☆ The waiters are nice and friendly.
☆ The soup base was good, not too salty like other retaurants.
☆ The meat and seafood also good.

– The sashimi was like frozen, quite bland and tasteless. The sushi was okay, not too special.
– The waiters should tell us about the automatic charge of 15% gratuity
– The waiters should tell us about the time limit when leading us to the table, and notify us in a friendly/politely way if there are only 15mins away or when should we have our last placed order.
– There should be a way to track history orders placed EACH TIME on the tablet or the restaurant’s orders system, so the waiters can avoid wasting when bringing the wrong or extra food. For example, when we ordered just 1 order of sashimi for the last time (we ordered sashimi 3-4 times) but the chefs missed our order we asked them to re-check if they missed. But when they re-checked, they did not know how many orders of sashimi that we ordered for the last time. Then they brought all orders of sashimi from our first order so there were 2-3 orders of sashimi instead of only 1. Fortunately, we still have room to finish them. If not, the food would be wasted.

We’ll be back next time for lunch to see if it worth and improve better.

We arrived around 5-6pm. There were 3 of us; my niece, my mom, and I. No one else in the restaurant, kind of nervous because it was completely empty when we arrived; wasn’t sure if the food was going to be good or not. We got seated right away, our server was excellent! He showed us how to order and explained to us which broth was most popular and which is more recommended for the elderly.

Food arrived fast & fresh. They checked up on us and removed dishes that we didn’t need anymore off the table regularly.

We did the AYCE for hotpot and sushi. Ordered 2 roll of sushi; UPIN roll was fresh and hot. Shrimp tempura could have been rolled better and tighter but still good. Crawfish was already cooked, it came out extremely quick but some of the crawfish were still cold and salty. I ordered onion fried rice for my mom, size was perfect for 1 person. All other dishes were fresh, no smell to it and didn’t have a frozen taste to it.

Went for lunch yesterday. I met the owner who was also my server. He was a nice guy who provided great service.

This was my first time at a hot pot restaurant and was by myself. looks like a great time if you took a date or family.

I picked 2 soup bases. one of them had some spice to it so be sure to ask your server before ordering if you might not like spice.

Ben suggested different proteins to order. a variety of beef, shrimp, octopus, chicken, mussels and many more were brought out to me by a robot.

There is also a cold buffet bar where you can choose vegetables to add to your soup as well as salads, kimchi, watermelon and more. At one end of the line is a variety of dipping sauces.

the wait staff helps you out and tells you how long to cook each item in the soup as they all have different requirements.

I also ordered some boba tea which was quite tasty and a came in a large cup.

at 24.95 for all you can eat lunch, I left plenty satisfied and will be back.

Visited 06/14/2024: Decent AYCE Hotpot. Interior ambiance is very welcoming & nice. Your automatically greeted and seated with aprons! Service is excellent and robots are a great addition. Good selection of broth and it’s very rich and flavorful. Sauce selection is not huge but decent- nice because when they’re too much, it gets confusing. Different sizes of bowls and plates available- love! Not a very large selection of proteins nor vegetables. Loved the greens-better presented and appears more fresh than Jpot. Small appetizer selections but tasted great. Small tables.

Is it a must revisit spot for me? No. The cost is expensive (w/auto 15% gratuity) for hotpot & sushi and its menu is limited. The sushi rolls are not super. Nigiri is great though and the rice is fluffy and quite good. Beverage is included in the price. Wish you can have a choice of hotpot & sushi or separate (for lower price)

My faves: Gizzards, seaweed salad, squid & cucmber salad, Chinese style fried spring rolls, cream cheese wontons, the seafood, fruits (watermelon and honeydew), and ambrosia.

Broths: Herbal soup (rich but too creamy- wish there was a clear herbal broth); Szechuan (rich but too much szechuan seeds which makes the taste of the bite too much if stuck to meat or veggies).
*Sesame paste is extremely peanut buttery- didn’t like it

If you want to cook your meal, hit up JPot AYCE bbq & hotpot in Maplewood. Just about the same price for double experience and double selections and it’s tasty! However their seaweed salad smells and tastes fishy.

If you don’t want to cook, go to Tastypot! Always delicious and never fails…..

This place just opened up at the old Perkins, do not let that deter you from enjoying this place. They remodeled the inside and it’s quite cozy and clean now.

I love the combo of AYCE sushi and Hot pot. The broth is on point and the staff are so helpful and nice! You can order from the tablet on the table and a little robot beeps over to your table once it ready to be delivered. Love this place. Everything is super fresh.

Weekday prices are great. There is no distinction between lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday, it’s all day dinner prices but for the price, it’s worth it.

The Kimchi is fresh n the bomb!!! I wish they sell that in a container!! So freaking yummy.

They also have boba tea! Bonus!
