Great experience. Went for my birthday last night and really good drinks. I loved the Green Fairy! Cool presentation and delicious.

The Bone marrow bread was delicious and so was my tomawk steak.

Great atmosphere and service, will go back for sure!

+Update: Went back last night for my anniversary and it was an outstanding experience. They gave us some champagne when we first got there. Went a bit earlier and service was outstanding. Things came out super quick and were delicious! Bartender came over at one point and made me and off menu cocktail.

Music was Also pleasant and just a great vibe. Will be back for sure!

The Underground is far and away the best steakhouse I have ever been to in my entire life. The stakes are absolutely top-notch, and are served with a mushroom medley with roasted whole cloves of garlic that alone are worth going for, and they add such a huge amount of character and flavor to the steaks they’re served with.

Particularly noteworthy is the lobster bisque. This is about as perfect as soup as I’ve ever had, with amazing flavor, and lots of large chunks of perfectly-cooked lobster.

As is the case with most high-end steakhouses, the steaks are sold a la carte. The side dishes are huge; big enough to share with a whole table. They’re also extremely affordable considering the low price and the huge portion size.

Staff is extremely friendly, helpful, enthusiastic, and attentive.

It is highly recommended to make reservations, especially on the weekends, because this place can fill up quickly. It is also among the best places I’ve ever been to see a jazz show, with excellent seating, very appropriate volume levels, and extremely talented performers.

I really cannot speak highly enough about The Underground. It has rapidly become one of my favorite places to go for a night out.

Since my original visit, I’ve been back half a dozen times. Each time, the service has been absolutely superb! The food is CONSISTENTLY perfect; perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. I seriously cannot express how absolutely perfect an establishment The Underground is.

Friends and I attended a Birthday dinner at the Underground. It was my first time there. The Restaurant is small and cozy. It has a 1920-1930s vibe. Live Piano and Sax player. Not too loud, but just right.
The wait staff needs to be highly noted. Our waiter was outstanding and provide 5 out of 5 service the entire night.
Food was outstanding. I had the 10 oz Buffalo Ribeye and my wife had the Steak Oscar. Both were cooked perfectly. The Bread Service as Sooo GREAT.
We both had a bowl of Lobster Bisque.

It is a bit expensive, so be ready for check.

Cocktail service was also very good. We brought our own wine in from a special vineyard, and there was no issue with that.

Our first time at the Underground and we were really taken aback by the lovely decor. It’s a really cozy and inviting atmostphere. We were seated promptly at our reserved time which was 5:30. The piano in the background was not so loud that we couldn’t hear each other and the musician played really well too.
We started with drinks and my cocktail was beautiful and delicious. We also ordered the French Onion appetizer and the baguette was baked to perfection. The French Onion however was really undersalted and they don’t provide salt or pepper at the table.
The peppercorn steak sauce was good & the steak was perfectly cooked but still, underwhelming. The asparagus had just the right about of crispness and my husband loved the Truffle Mac & Cheese. (I’m not a fan of mac & cheese no matter who makes it)

The highlight of my meal was the Creme Brulee. I’ve enjoy this dessert at many restaurants but this was THE BEST. It was so smooooth with a thin sheet of carmelized sugar…not burnt, carmelized sugar that added to the dessert and didn’t interfere with the texture of the creamy smoothness below it. This Brulee was an experience I want to repeat again and again.
I didn’t take a picture of the Brulee because I wasn’t really expecting much but when i picked up my spoon and tasted this treat, I didn’t want to put my spoon down long enough to take a picture!
I gave 4 stars on food because I believe if they can do this to cream, I’ve gotta try another steak and see what my taste buds say…

All in all, I look forward to visiting again.

PS Service is very good.

Fuego Underground is indeed “Fire!” I’ve been to dozens of Speakeasy establishments in New York, Las Vegas, and even in Central America. Fuego Underground has easily become a top 5 favorite experience for me!
It isn’t secreted behind an unmarked door or hidden behind a business front, but it has an authentic feel of a Speakeasy from the 20s and 30s. The servers are dressed as flappers, and the interior of the Underground beneath De Fuego bar attached to the Monarch hotel in Clackamas is opulent yet tasteful and reminiscent of the era. There is live piano music at opening, and smooth jazz trios and featured artists later in the evening.
The service is on point. Everyone embraces the spirit of the experience being created within the Fuego Underground. The cocktails are heavily weighted toward the whiskey and bourbon drinking crowd, yet all drinks are given the prohibition era spin in presentation. The entrees are predominantly various cuts of beef with some exceptions, and they are of equal quality to any high-end steak house in Portland. The sides are varied and better than most compared to, say, El Goucho or Ringside. I had a Gâteau au Chocolat for desert that was delicious! (even though I had to take it home and eat it 2 hours later for being so full!)
Overall, it was an amazing experience! If you love a good Speakeasy, you HAVE to try Fuego Underground. If you just like great steaks and craft cocktails, this is a hidden gem with easy parking, but reservations are recommended. This place is popular and for very good reason.

Incredible decor, food, service and live jazz music are the hallmark of this little gem. Servers wear 1920’s fashions and the bartender concocts personalized cocktails and mocktails. The food is of the highest quality and is prepared beautifully. Prices are commensurate with the care and sourcing of the menu. Choose the Underground for any and every special occasion. Book online early. Their reservations fill quickly and in advance. Everyone who works here genuinely enjoys their job and the entire staff complements your visit with thoughtful and consistent attention to every detail. This is a magical place with some of Portland’s finest jazz musicians providing elegant backdrop to your meal. Desserts and drinks available later in the evening after table service ends. Get your Great Gatsby self dressed to the nines and get ready for The Experience at the Underground Speakeasy.

A wonderful prohibition themed bar/restaurant. It’s under de Fuego Grill. It claims to be a speakeasy but Stevie Wonder can see it’s there. Nevertheless, it has a very cool vibe. The menu is more limited than upstairs but downstairs has more mojo. The drinks are very good. Not Multnomah Whiskey Library level but very enjoyable. My wife loved The French Kiss. I had the vieux carre and the blood and sand. Food is pretty much steaks, seafood, salad and the token burger ($23). We went with the economical, 16oz Snake River Farms Bavette ($29), truffle mac and cheese ($13) and bread with herb butter and chimichurri ($9). The bread was amazing! We probably could just have split the bread and the mac and cheese. The steaks were not spectacular but great for the price. We ordered horseradish, peppercorn and steak sauce. The horseradish was very polite. My wife liked the chimichurri better. We didn’t like the steak sauce. They play jazz on Saturday night and we enjoyed a savvy band and vocals that were spot on for the prohibition theme. We weren’t looking to drop nearly $200 but have no regrets. We’ll definitely be back and order bread and salad. Ample parking. Check out my profile for more great eateries and cocktail bars. ✌

This place is one of those hidden gems for some great steaks. Its like a speakeasy vibe with live music. This time, we ordered our food family style so we can try a bit of everything. Their All The Things (bread board) is a great appetizer to get to share with the group. We ordered the Tomahawk, Porterhouse, Dry Aged ribeye, Snake River Farms Bavette, and Imperial Teres for our main entrees. We also ordered a handful of sides, with the Mac and cheese being my favorite. The service was good and attentive.

What a fun experience. Food was 4 star on food, our chocolate cake was good, but a bit dry and way too sweet. Live piano player and then a fun band. Speak easy style, even the staff are dressed in that time period. Felt very cared for.
We’ve been on a dry January (not going out to eat) because to often than not, the food and service sucks for the amount of money we shell out. This was well worth falling off the wagon for. Will be back, maybe next month❤️❤️❤️ get a reservation for sure

What a GEM! Such a wonderful surprise!

My husband knew of this place from a friend who knows we love a good bar. We decided to drop by to check it out. Reservations are key but luckily we were able to sneak in that night. So glad we did!

The doors opened to a beautiful room of velvet, rich furniture and moody lighting. A pianist was playing and you already feel transported. The staff was so welcoming and decked out in period attire – you feel like you’re in the 1920s. It reminded me of The Magic Castle in LA. Has that vibe.

The menu offers solid steakhouse fare. We ordered bread service and cocktails first. The bartender knows her stuff. My husband particularly enjoyed his Bootlegger Old Fashioned. He loved his salmon as well and I had their delicious mushroom risotto and a wedge salad. Everything was yummy.

They are located in the underbelly of The Monarch Hotel of all things. Such a fun, hidden gem of a venue. You have to go yourself to believe it. We’ll be back for sure!
