Got the turkey leg, collard greens and candied yams. Turkey leg was good and it was definitely fall.off the bone. It looked more like braised rather than smoked. The collard greens were good and so were the yams. Collard greens had a bit of vinegar after taste. Price was fair and the staff was friendly.

Uncle Ray’s Drive-In in Greenville, TX,
What I Ordered:
• Smoky Turkey Leg
• Macaroni and Cheese
• Candied Yams
• Collard Greens
• 18-piece Wings (Sweet & Spicy Sauce)
• Sweet Potato Pie
• Crinkle-cut French Fries

The Positives:
1. 18-piece Wings: The sweet and spicy sauce was amazing—perfectly balanced with just the right kick. The chicken itself was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, without needing to request extra frying time. This was the star of the meal and absolutely worth revisiting.
2. Smoky Turkey Leg: This was another highlight. The sauce was delicious, the meat was tender and falling off the bone, and the portion size was generous. If you’re a turkey leg fan, this is a must-try.
3. Sweet Potato Pie: The flavor was unique, with an intriguing spice (possibly nutmeg or ginger) standing out. While the flavor was good, the portion size for $6 felt underwhelming.

The Mediocre:
1. Crinkle-cut Fries: These were just average fries—no seasoning, nothing remarkable. They were fine as a side, but not memorable.
2. Collard Greens: The vinegar-water base wasn’t my personal style, though the seasoning was decent, and they included smoked meat for added flavor. While they were edible, they didn’t stand out.

The Disappointments:
1. Macaroni and Cheese: The portion size was incredibly small, and it wasn’t baked—it was just standard shell pasta with cheese sauce. The dish lacked seasoning, requiring additional salt and pepper to be palatable.
2. Candied Yams: These were just okay. They didn’t have the rich sweetness or buttery depth I was hoping for.
3. Value for Money: Spending $85 for this meal felt excessive, especially given the small portions of the sides and the underwhelming flavor of certain items.

Overall Thoughts:

While I appreciate the effort, Uncle Ray’s Drive-In didn’t quite meet my expectations. The wings and smoked turkey leg were fantastic and worth ordering again, but the sides and desserts didn’t deliver on flavor or value. I moved to Texas expecting bold flavors and big portions, because they say everything’s BIG HERE! Well I found out quickly that’s not accurate. This meal fell short in both categories, especially compared to the establishments I frequent back in Ohio, where seasoning & portion is key. I love supporting local businesses, and I don’t mind paying for great food, but this just didn’t feel worth the $85 (Door Dash). Unfortunately, I won’t be returning for the full meal experience. However, if you’re craving Sweet & Spicy wings fried hard or a smoky turkey leg, those are definite standouts and worth every bite!!

We all had cheeseburger baskets and my wife had a side of mac and cheese. Burgers were ok, my burger had a funky taste like it was cooked on a dirty griddle, the crinkle fries and the mac and cheese were good. The staff was friendly but, service was a bit slow.
All in all it was a positive experience, the food was satisfactory and we will be going back for the mac and cheese turkey leg, greens and yams!

It was my first time visiting Uncle Ray’s Drive-In. I had the pleasure of meeting Uncle Ray himself. A very pleasant man. We ordered the wings with fries, mac & cheese, and greens with tea. The wings were really good, good flavor. The mac & cheese it was a tad bit salty, but it was still good. Now the collards greens, I have to say, was not my cup of tea. I’ve never eaten sweet Collard greens, so for me, it was a no. Overall, the food was good and I will be back.

The service for placing my order was really good. I got 3 turkey legs and some wings and the wings were the only food item that was actually really good. The turkey legs here weren’t fall of the bone this time. They were really hard and chewy to eat. And they had a little burnt taste on them.

This was our first time here, and we were pleasantly surprised. Everyone we encountered was courteous, approachable, and overall professional. We got the cheeseburger basket, a sweet potato, and pecan pie, and nothing disappointed. We loved that it was made to order. Next time we are trying the wings, we can not wait!!!

Got the cheeseburger with bacon and fries and I have to say the burger was off the chain. I’d say it’s better than the old Griffs burgers. Definitely will go back. The young man who runs the orders is also very polite with great manners
