Service was fast, friendly, and on point the entire time. The staff made us feel super welcome, and to top it all off, they surprised us with free ice cream at the end. Little things like that really make the experience stand out.
Highly recommend this place if you’re craving great sushi, great vibes, and great service. Will definitely be back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I ordered a mix of hand rolls and ended up substituting the crab hand roll for another yellowtail, which was a solid choice. The fish tasted fresh and clean, and each roll was made right in front of us. The seaweed was roasted perfectly, warm, crisp, and easy to bite through.
A few of the rolls, like the salmon and shellfish, were mixed with a bit of mayo. It is a common preparation style, but I would have preferred the salmon with just ponzu sauce instead. The rice could have used a little more seasoning, but the balance of textures was still great.
The staff was friendly and attentive, offering good recommendations throughout the meal. They also have fresh wasabi available if you ask for it, which is a nice touch that elevates the experience.
Food: 4 out of 5 – Fresh and flavorful, with room for a bit more seasoning
Service: 4 out of 5 – Friendly, attentive, and helpful with recommendations
Ambiance: 4 out of 5 – Clean, quiet, and comfortable
I found the salt and lemon levels a little too high for my liking on most things.
The Toro and Uni were my favorite.
We could not find 1 pairs of Oraking salmon and Toro nigiri with this reasonable price
All set meals are the good combinations of small cucumbers salad, crudos plate, nigiri and hand roll set.
I really recommend this place, even the set menu could not make a substation but we ordered the Alacart instead. We do understand the restaurant everage the food cost for the set menu.
If you have allergies problem, we do recommend the A Lacare, the price just only a few dollars difference.
All staff are friendly, and we could feel they made the food with love and passion.
Love UmiAi,
The place is beautiful and it’s all counter seating
I chose the 5 Handroll set $34 which came with salmon, yellowtail, crab, scallop, and tuna. I loved all except the scallop, nothing wrong with it and I usually do like scallop but this had an odd taste from the sauce and not the scallops themselves.
Also ordered the salmon carpaccio $27 which was phenomenal. I loved the flavors and the different textures between the salmon, crab, and puffed rice crispies. It’s probably one of my favorites crudos or just seafood plates I’ve had in LA.
I asked what else was recommended for the crudo and told that the yuzu yellowtail $25 is their most popular. I can see why. It’s light, fresh, citrusy, and delicious.
For nigiri, I went with:
toro $17
big eye tuna $8
seared salmon $12
albacore $8.50
halibut $10
Hokkaido scallops $9
wagyu $25
Each nigiri order was simply delicious. I couldn’t choose a favorite since they were all equally delicious in their own ways.
Service was great but my only complaint would be how the food is served. When you go to other Handroll spots, regardless if you order handrolls, nigiri, plates, etc, there’s an “order” to them, and by that I mean the chefs check on you and wait to make/serve the next dish until after you finish what you’re currently eating. This can be said about many regular sushi spots too. But here, I had my first plate of nigiri, the salmon carpaccio, and first Handroll all delivered at the same time. I was in the middle of eating my carpaccio when the Handroll got soft and the seared salmon got cold. Somewhat minor to me as I’m not a huge complainer for something like this but I do hope that style of service improves! I will definitely be back!
I absolutely love this place. I enjoy that it is “vibey” with the highly-millennial curated Hip Hop/R&B playlists and bar only seating. No reservations, but the longest I have ever waited was 20 minutes on literal Valentine’s Day (where they gave every couple a rose, so sweet!)
The chefs and servers are highly attentive and I’ve never had an issue with an incorrect order, long wait, or quality. Most importantly they serve hand rolls the proper way: freshly (and perfectly) toasted seaweed enveloping your chosen filling and handed directly to you by the chef so you get that crispy, crunchy bite.
My menu must-haves:
– Spicy SALMON hand roll. I think the staff might secretly say “That spicy salmon girl is here…” to each other when they see me walking in…
– Pick your Toro, any Toro
– Cucumber Salad
– Husband is obsessed with anything albacore on the menu
You honestly probably can’t go wrong. All the fish is clearly of the best quality and prepared properly.
11/10, will of course be back again 🙂
