no whole lobster and abalone only stir fried dead lobster which is so gooey.
not gonna come back after being a loyal since they open
Umi, compared to many buffets I’ve been to is very bright on the inside, well-lit and overall kept very clean. The latter in particular is a big one for a buffet with the amount of food and guest turnover. It’s a very different aesthetic than most buffets I’ve been to, so it might be something that will take some adjustment to. The only critique I have is that I found the music to be a little louder than I prefer; if the volume was a just a little lower then I think it would work.
One of Umi’s big draws is the AYCE lobster tails. During the week, it’s baked tail with cheese and one the weekend it’s steamed lobster tail. One big thing – definitely try to catch them as they just come out to ensure they are fresh. It is AYCE, but you can only get one at a time. They have drawn butter so for many, that’s what they’ll get for that but here’s a fun idea…take advantage of the hotpot sauce bar and make your own sauce to dip your tails in.
They also have a very good selection of sushi as well…and sashimi. Sashimi on a buffet is very rare and I was glad to see it. Overall, the different pieces of sashimi I had were pretty good and I was glad to see tuna, salmon and I presume red snapper. Their maki rolls were pretty good too though I was a little disappointed to not see a Philly roll or a spicy tuna roll there.
As mentioned, they have a hotpot bar. You will have to ask your server for the broth and they will bring out the bowl with your choice of broth (for most, start with a tomato or mushroom broth and work up from there). They have a cold bar that has the various goodies to cook in your broth including a good variety of “meatballs.” Though unlike a hotpot restaurant, they don’t quite has as much selection of the thin pieces of meat. They also have a pretty good sauce bar as well, though I would recommend they use different spoons for the liquids as the normal spoons make it difficult to ladle out your liquids like sesame oil or soy sauce.
The only real disappointment was their hibachi. They had a decent, though narrow selection of ingredients for their hibachi and the cook who was working that station slightly overcooked my beef. A bit a critique here would be that I’d like to see the cook able to cook my meat to order if it’s beef and a little more selection of the sauces. The teriyaki was a bit too sweet for my taste; I would have liked to have the option to have a more savory sauce to go with that.
As a big plus, the price of the buffet also includes all the boba you can drink. Most places will charge extra for boba drinks and Umi has a good selection of different boba teas.
Overall there was a good selection of seafood options and even crab legs to dine on and plenty of cooked options as well. They also have some dim sum items as well.
As a note, they have gone to adding a service charge to your bills to not require tipping. So that base price of $39.00 will be closer to $46 when adding tax and service charges. There is a slight discount if you pay cash as well.
While I won’t be going here frequently, I would like to come back and hopefully see the quality of what they are serving improve and maybe take some feedback from the guests to improve the experience further.
A special thank you to Samantha for taking the time to show me around and making me feel like a VIP guest. I’ll definitely be returning soon to try the hot pot , the selection looks fantastic! Promote this lady, she is amazing!
Honestly it’s just ok. All we had was the buffet this visit. I will give a more in depth review after we go back and try the hot pot.
We were pretty miffed that the price is $40 on the weekend, not the advertise $30.
Also, there is an auto grad of 10% on every bill FYI, they call it a “service fee”
They’ve got a hot pot setup where you can cook your own meat (those beef rolls were perfect for that). The broth was flavorful and made everything taste even better. Also grabbed a fruity drink that hit the spot.
Overall, everything was fresh, tasty, and worth it. If you’re into seafood and hot pot, definitely check this place out. I’m 100% coming back for round two
