Umami Kushi is a grab and go street food cafe that focuses on Okazu Pans a Japanese style pastry that is made from fresh dough and filled with savory fillings. Our goal is to reshape the grab and go snack sector by bringing multi cultural flavors to the on the go consumer and satisfy there need for finding something uniquely satisfying. We also serve espresso coffee and on the weekends offer additional sweet options such as beignets and sweet rolls.

I needed to grab a quick meal before leaving for the airport and found this place nearby!I loved the wide range of Afro-Caribbean and Asian flavors. I settled on the Peruvian Chicken and found it flavorful and moist. It also comes with a small container of spicy green sauce which enhances the experience. If I’m in town again, I’d love to come back and try the other breads. Such a unique intersection!

Honestly, all of the options I’ve had are great. I tend to avoid the spicier options, because those do have a good kick to them, but they were still tasty. The beef curry is my default and I get it every time, but I also really enjoy the coconut curry when it’s available. I also got the sweet buns once and did not regret it at all. Go on a Tuesday for their customer appreciation day and get a bunch of them for half off – I eat them for lunch the next few days and while they aren’t going to be crispy on the outside, they still reheat well in the microwave.

First time here but it won’t be our last! This place is fantastic! The food was so pretty I didn’t want to eat it but it’s sooooo delicious! The pull apart sweet roll was to die for!
My friend said the Beignets were the best he’d ever had outside of Louisiana!!
We happened to be running over in the area near seaward park and stopped in post run, we’ll worth the detour!

We found this place after a trip to Japan had us longing for Japanese train station style bakery places, with things like yakisoba sandwich! If you’re looking for something like that this is the place-One of its kind, Umami Kushi/Okazua Pan has been around for 14 years and it’s the kind of warm place where the owner/staff has a conversation with you as they recommend what you’d like to have!
We went for a post swim snack but ended up getting 4 of the crispy buns with savoury fillings- My favourite was the Adobe chicken and Curry beef! The Beignets which are weekend specials are out of this world- lightly sweet, super fluffy, warm and I wish I got more!
There are Japanese drinks that you can couple your purchase with, they also make bags of crisps and Barbecue sauce in-house for retail!

Umami Kushi will see me regularly from now on.
The owner is phenomenal very funny, kind, and makes such good food! Everything is made to order—very warm n fresh! The chicken curry pan, beef curry pan, Peruvian chicken pan were all so crispy, filled so well with meet (not one of those 80% 20% meat buns). Torn between beef and Peruvian for my favs! The beignets omg. So soft, fluffy, and soft.
The atmosphere is very anime inspired from the custom art, to memorabilia, to the music. Small place might not be ideal for a group over 5 to dine in but great to-go spot.
We went late so they were out of a few flavors, have to try the jerk chicken once I’m back!

Tried Umami Kushi in Rainier Beach for the first time this morning and was blown away by their delicate and delicious meat pies. This charming bakery, with their upbeat and sweet team members, has raised the bar and may redefine excellent Japanese cuisine for you. Tuesdays feature half priced “pans” so we picked up a curry beef, one of the chicken options, salmon, and a lentil. All were scrumptious. It was hard to choose because the variety was almost overwhelming. Tucked away in the display case was their banana bread, so I asked for a slice. They drizzled it with a caramel sauce that transformed what is a mundane standard at most bakeries into a slice of heaven.
There’s parking right in front of the door, plus indoor and outdoor seating to relax and enjoy the view of the marina across the street. Or, hike across the street to Beer-shiva park, that’s adjacent to our amazing Tilth Gardens to enjoy your delicious goodies.
I’m already reaching out to friends to make future trips to Umami Kushi.

Great local place. The beignets are so good I wish they served them 7 days a week! The aesthetic of the shop was so fun and cute with anime decorations and very clean. The cashier was very accommodating and gave me a recommendation of the jam which was amazing. Honestly probably my favorite shop in Seattle. Must try place.

So many delicious options, both with and without meat. I’ve tried the jerk chicken, curried beef, BBQ Pork and Peruvian chicken, and WOW. The bread is fresh and soft the fillings flavorful and everything was just fantastic. They also currently have Vietnamese coffee and tea which paired perfectly. Great place, great people and great food – highly recommend. Love having these folks in the neighborhood!
