The ambiance and restaurant decor was lovely and spacious. Clean tables, floors, and bathrooms. Absolutely loved the attention to dishware and silverware (they were unique and had good mouth-feel depending on the utensil). High quality disposable chopsticks as well! Love when restaurant owners put in the work for small details.
The food was GORGEOUS. Everything was plated beautifully and tasted amazing. Great Happy Hour specials for drinks and snack, great value on dishes (lots of dishes under $20), and great variety–Japanese dishes as well as Southeast dishes.
Our server, Daniel, was the highlight of the night. He was attentive, funny, and kind to everyone in our group. When I wanted to order takoyaki from the dinner menu, he suggested ordering it from the Happy Hour menu since it was technically cheaper for more pieces. When we wanted to take a group photo, he took multiple for us at different angles and cleared trash off the table to make it a nice shot. He made the dining experience such a wonderful experience.
I tried a little bit of everything, but my main dish was the Tom/Tod (Hainanese Chicken Rice). It was juicy, had the perfect balance of flavor, and nostalgic.
It was such an amazing time, and I hope to be back soon! Highly recommend.
This location also has a larger menu, is more classic Japanese favorites! We really enjoyed the Tonkotsu Ramen and Tonkatsu Rice, and I feel like their portions are pretty big?!!! My partner and I agreed this location is a new favorite!
Random – they really went all out on Halloween decorations! Love it!
If you love authentic Japanese food, I highly recommend checking this place out. A must-visit!
The service was exceptional. Daniel (Piron), our server, was incredibly knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. He was genuinely passionate about the business and made sure we had a wonderful experience. He was such a valuable asset to the team at Umai Ramen.
The food was simply amazing. It was flavorful, delicious, and incredibly tasty. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the broth was rich and satisfying. Even the appetizers were fantastic…
The progression of dishes was thoughtfully crafted, taking us on a journey from northern to southern Japan. Some of the standouts for me:
• Shima aji with lime zest – bright, citrusy, and refreshing
• Hotate (scallop) – very good, clean, and sweet with none of the usual fishiness
• Chutoro + uni topped with caviar and gold flakes – rich, creamy, and luxurious, definitely a favorite bite
We also added the premium sake pairing, which I highly recommend. Each pour was intentional and elevated the flavors beautifully.
For the quality, intimacy, and portions, the price is unbeatable: $120 per person (+$45 for sake pairing). Honestly, it’s such a steal that I don’t think it will stay like this for long once more people find out.
The chef is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate — you can feel that passion in every course. This was more than a meal; it was an art form.
Located at Umai Ramen & Donburi in Tysons, VA. There’s a parking garage right nearby — I usually park on the third floor since it’s less crowded and then just take the elevator down.

This was a very good omakase experience, and I’ll definitely be back (next time with my husband!). Highly recommend checking it out.
The ramen stands out immediately — rich, layered broths that warm you from the first sip, paired with noodles that have just the right bite. Toppings are generous and thoughtfully arranged, making each bowl feel complete and deeply satisfying.
The donburi is just as impressive. The rice is perfectly cooked, the proteins are tender and well‑seasoned, and the house sauces tie everything together with a clean, savory finish. It’s comfort food done right: simple, hearty, and full of flavor.
Service is friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the food consistently hits the mark. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch or settling in for a cozy dinner, Uami delivers a meal that feels both comforting and memorable.
