Ubu is the best sushi spot in Hoboken

The owner Jay, is an excellent sushi maker + incredible person.

The menu has endless options, and the quality is unbeatable.

The place is small and intimate. It is also BYOB which is amazing!

If you want the best sushi in Hoboken and the best vibes, there is no greater place than Ubu.

It’s rare that I feel the need to write a review after visiting a restaurant, especially so soon after leaving, but that is the extent to which I enjoyed my dining experience at Ubu tonight. Every detail of our meal was exceptional. The fish used for the sushi was some of the freshest I’ve ever tasted outside of Japan, each piece clearly crafted with care and precision. You could tell the chef takes real pride in the quality and presentation. Our server, who seemed to be the owner or manager, was warm, patient, and genuinely engaging. He even surprised us with a few complimentary dishes, which were both delicious and deeply appreciated. This place radiates hospitality and culinary excellence. I can’t wait to return!

UBU Sushi in Hoboken was phenomenal. My friend and I had an amazing time from start to finish. The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the overall vibe of the place made the experience even better.

What really stood out was the owner — extremely serviceable, welcoming, and genuinely nice. You can tell they care about their customers and the experience they’re providing. That kind of hospitality goes a long way and made the night even more enjoyable.

Highly recommend UBU Sushi if you’re in Hoboken. We’ll definitely be back.

Haven’t been to a sushi restaurant in a long time so this was a treat! Sushi was great and super affordable. Service was magnificent as they even threw in 2x free seared salmon pieces and ice cream puffs. Would come again!

My first time coming here, in the area and was craving sushi. Was very surprised at how fresh and soft the salmon sushi and and maki was. The owner was incredibly nice and patient. He even threw in a couple free pieces! Would really recommend, place is clean and staff is very pleasant.

Very impressive with the service and the food. Everything was delicious. The service was attentive and nice, you rarely get this kind of treatment anywhere. We got the Korean soup and chicken udon. Chicken was tender, and the broth was tasty. Seared salmon and spicy tuna sushi were great too. The sauce they use on top is so good, you don’t even need to use the soy sauce with it. Will be back to get the sashimi.

All the sushi was impressive, and it’s the only restaurant I’ve been to that offers a large selection of cooked sushi. We were given a complimentary 3 piece Seared Salmon sushi. It was delicious. The ramen ordered was decent, but it has the thinner type of ramen noodles, and the soup was okay. I prefer the thicker chewie ramen noodles. The plain miso soup was a bit too salty. Avocado salad was fresh and tasty. The server/waiter was very pleasant and accommodating. I asked for no sweet sauces and to have the sushi with minimal rice, and he accommodated with no issues.
The restaurant itself is small and cozy. The Saturday evening we went wasn’t busy and we were quite happy with not sitting in a crowded noisy place. Yet, the restaurant was quite busy with phone orders. I’ll definitely go back to try more of the large selection of raw and cooked sushi and the Korean dishes.

I got take out at the last minute, about 30 mins before the restaurant closed, as I was indecisive about where to eat in Hoboken for the first time. However, the staff (and owner?) were super sweet and accommodating and made me a great salmon bowl.

I usually eat sushi or sashimi instead of a ricebowl, but decided to do a salmon bowl this night as well as an eel unagi roll. The salmon don bowl was delicious! There was so much good fresh salmon, which was great for the price. The eel roll was okay, not bad but also not outstanding. Regardless, for the price that I paid, I thought it was a great deal.

Will definitely visit the next time I’m in Hoboken!
