Oh goodness, this is NOT the place you want to go to for a dine-in service. They don’t have a “waitress,” or “server,” so they have the bartender do all the work from dine-in customers, taking orders AND bartender services. Very frustrating. Since the bartender is busy with bartender-work, they can’t immediately refill your drink or give service for dine-in customers. You have to physically walk up to the bar counter so many times to ask for a refill for your table and some type of service, or to get the check. It’s ridiculous. And on top of that, they expect a tip. Tip my AZZ! We practically serviced ourselves!! I been to this place FOUR times, I like to give places so many tries before I judge and each time they are the same terrible-long-waiting experience. It’s funny enough that they take forever to service 2-4 people. I can’t imagine a group of 5-6! My advice is go to Texas Roadhouse or something.

This place is my local dive bar (I moved to a < 10 minute walk away), and I love it to death, but my last experience just needs to be documented as a warning.

Overall, this bar is everything you could want — a perfect grungy atmosphere that likely hasn’t changed a bit in 20+ years, limited but fairly priced selection of beers + full bar, and seriously some of the BEST fresh, down to earth burgers and bar food you can find in the metro at 2018 prices.

The only issue here is service. From what I could deduce over my last 5 or so visits, there is 1 lady (who carries owner energy) that is the de facto server & bartender, one guy who runs the kitchen, changes out kegs, etc., and maybe 1 other person I’ve forgotten on the payroll. Normally, if you come to sit down and eat food, service is understandably “minimal”. You might get a single visit for water/drink orders 5-15 minutes after seating yourself, one visit for food orders like 30 minutes later, and then a quick drop-off whenever the food is ready. For additional drinks/refills, grabbing menus (sometimes), any adjustments/follow-ups, and even tabbing out…you are on your own and have to go to the bar. That’s not documented anywhere, but is just kinda the way it is — dive bar tribal knowledge if you will. If you are prepared for this, you will have a great time.

LAST TIME was a cluster though. I arrived at 7pm last Friday to a full bar (this place is NEVER full in my experience) with a couple friends, and got one of the last tables in the back. This might have been most of the issue, but there was a HUGE party of probably 12-14, mostly older, and needy looking patrons. It was just the one lady on the floor, and she looked stressed. Eventually, like 20-30 minutes after seating, she noticed we had arrived, and we were able to order a couple beers. We were never asked if we wanted food menus. Server came back, quickly dropped off drinks…and we never saw her again. We watched for the next HOUR AND A HALF the giant party get served with refill pitchers, food orders, etc. We weren’t in a hurry, and figured we would get helped once this party was done. Wrong. We tried to make eye contact several times, but it became evident the server had just given up, retreated to the bar, and wasn’t planning on serving any more tables the rest of the evening. We could have gone up to the bar and asked if we could put a food order in…but after 2 HOURS of waiting, we figured it would be another two before we got food.

We immediately left for High-Dive down on 39th street, and within (I kid you not) 1 minute of being seated, we were helped. Within 15 minutes, we had beers in hand and food ordered. That bar was packed too.

It was truly a surreal, twighlight zone-esque experience. I empathize with the short staffing (which is maybe intentional given their usual crowd) and unusually large crowd, but I’ve never seen a server just willfully abandon tables (she was very attentive at the bar, and tabbed me out in less than 30 seconds when I went up there). I’ll be back when it’s less busy, but that left a really bad taste in my mouth.

Had a great first experience at Twin City Tavern! This pub has been open since the 1940’s and I can say confidently it hasn’t lost it’s touch. The decor looks original and has features that remind you of what hometown pubs used to be before all the television screens hanging up and loud music that you often see at restaurants now. There aren’t many local pubs that make you feel welcome and homey the way Twin City Tavern does. The music was on point all night with a mix of crowd favorites, indie and rock classics, and more. My partner and I sat outside on the back patio for a bit before cozying into a booth inside. We ordered a $7 Bud Light pitcher with onion rings and creamy fried jalapeno cheese bites!

After we ordered the cook Issac introduced himself and brought us sauces for dipping. I thought that was a nice personal touch. The bartender Christina hooked us up with limes for the beer and was super chill to talk to. Overall the food is extremely reasonably priced as are the drinks so you really can’t go wrong. Pitchers for $7, appetizers anywhere from $4-$10, shots for $4. I mean this is THE spot to hang for a while, plus there are board games for the table scattered around the ledges of each booth and old school arcade games as well! Will definitely be back to see our new friends again and enjoy some tasty snacks and beer.

It’s not a bad little joint. The service was excellent and the food was pretty good, not bad for bar food, not bad at all!

We had a good time playing some of their board games and throwing back a couple brews.

THIS is the best hamburger in Kansas city! Just ate there on a Wednsday $2.00 off burgers. $6 for Cheeseburger and fries. HUGE hamburger! Mustve been 3/4lb. Great seasoned fries. Just the right amount of seasoning. Generous portion.. generous everything. Slow time, no one there. Beats the competition hands down.

On our quest to only eat at new-to-us places, we came across Twin City. The atmosphere was good. About 5 or 6 other people. Seems like a cool neighborhood bar to grab a bite and have a drink. They have a nice outdoor area in the back. The food was good. About what you’d expect for bar food. We can recommend the Reuben sandwich, the grilled cheese, and the tomato soup.
