My wife and I have been coming to Tusconos Italian Restaurant for the last couple of years, and it’s become one of our favorite spots. We had a brief moment where we thought it was closing, and we’re so glad that didn’t happen. This place is truly a gem.

The food is consistently excellent, and the atmosphere has that perfect blend of charm and comfort. Every server we’ve had has been friendly, attentive, and just genuinely great to interact with. Service here rivals, and honestly often beats, what we get at many of the well-known spots in Kansas City.

We used to default to restaurants on the Plaza or downtown KC for our date nights, but Tuscono’s really holds its own, if not surpasses them, in both flavor and experience. Plus, you don’t have to deal with the long waits or hectic parking.

The building itself has so much character. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into preserving the history and creating a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. That, combined with the amazing food and service, makes every visit memorable.

To the owner, thank you. You’ve done something special here, and we’re truly grateful to have a place like this to enjoy. We’ll definitely be back again soon, and we’re always telling friends and family to give it a try. Perfect for a night out or just treating yourself to a great meal.

We got here early, but during our dinner, the place went from almost empty to almost packed. The restaurant has a spacious feel, almost empty due to the high ceilings and large, rectangular space. There is a separate bar off to the north side, and more space on the south side. Unfortunately, the dining room fills with the cooking odors from the kitchen, which clings to your hair and clothing–so, they should ventilate the kitchen better, and separate it from the dining area better.

One of us loved the food, and the other was initially impressed, but had a bit of an aftertaste. Our server was friendly, but she missed some key fundamentals: don’t hand a plate to one customer so they can pass it over; and, clear the table before bringing the bill or menus for dessert. We had to ask our server to clear the plates away.

Overall, this was a great experience, and a fun and unexpected little gem in a small town, where one would think of diners and cafes instead. Some tweaks to the service and ventilation will help a lot.

A great time! Tuscano’s is less than a mile from our home, we are always able to get parked closely. We typically sit at the bar and relax. The bartender is exceptional.
Tonight we had the Tuesday special of Prime Rib. It was amazing. Then for dessert we had the chocolate lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream.

Tusconos in Buckner is not what you’d expect in what looks like a sleepy small town in Missouri.
We were in the area and are always on the lookout for good gluten free restaurants. The menu and reviews on findmeglutenfree (an excellent resource) gave us some hope that this restaurant could be a good spot.
Overall, our night was good. We weren’t on a Saturday night and while busy the restaurant had no wait, with us being seated without reservation, immediately. The space is buffer inside than it seems like it would be, with the restaurant offering at least three separate spaces. There’s an outdoor seating option we didn’t try, being February in the Midwest. However it does look like it’ll be an inviting space.

The area looks like classic Missouri country town, and I’m sure I’m many ways is, however the strip Tusconos is on sports a distillery/bar and wine bar directly across. Plenty of options for a fun night or a casual get together.
Coming from Kansas City, it’s roughly 30-45 minutes from the city. Not a terrible drive, mostly highway.

Vibe
The staff are very casual, and the restaurant vibe reflects this, as did many of the patrons. There are artifacts of more pretentious restaurants, such as the chandeliers, murals, and almost too high ceilings, but either by environment or design the space doesn’t require you to meet that to feel comfortable there. Many of the patrons appeared to be locals just enjoying a night out, and one would be comfortable in business casual or flannel.

Service
The staff themselves were on top of service this evening. Our server, who’s name i don’t think I ever got, was attentive, but you could tell there is a team dynamic here as well. While she was definitely our primary it was not uncommon for anyone who saw a need to step in and refill a glass or clear plates, etc. Friendly, attentive, and accurate, I couldn’t ask for more.
Our server was clearly very good at her job being so attentive she had take home boxes ready for us and responded perfectly to the slightest queues any time she was in the vicinity.

Food
The food was good, and I’m by no means disappointed.
I ordered the stuffed portobello mushrooms, my wife had the gluten free lasagna. Both of us had side salads and for dessert, the bread pudding and the gluten free chocolate lava cake.
The restaurant starts you off with bread, of course. The standard bread option at the time are some basic bread sticks. Apparently you have to ask for oil and herb to dip in. Not a bad thing and clearly prevents waste for those who don’t want it. The gluten free bread appeared to be your basic Udi’s rolls. Maybe they are, maybe not, but if you’ve had them you’ll know what to expect.
The GF rolls were warm and soft, the standard bread sticks were basic bread sticks.
One point I’d recommend would be a bit of balsamic with the olive oil, and maybe a bit less oil. My wife’s was well portioned but my herbs were swimming a bit. Clearly just a ratio issue but still of note.

The salads were smaller than I’d expect but packed with a lot of options and honestly not a bad size overall. I think they fit perfectly, but those expecting larger side salads should be aware. The flavor and variety of side salads is good, and honestly beyond some preference, not a lot I’d change there.

The mains were excellent. Not only did the kitchen get those out extremely quickly, for what was again a busy looking night, but they were delicious. The portobellos were cooked perfectly and the chicken bacon filling was excellent. The gluten free lasagna, which doesn’t appear to be made with gf lasagna noodles but actually loose noodles layered like a lasagna was a wonderfully large portion that my wife was very satisfied with. On the noodle note, no it doesn’t look like a traditional “lasagna” but honestly nothing is lost there. The presentation was good, the food was delightful, and with gluten free options being what they are, it was a great execution of the dish.

The desserts were no less wonderful.

We took a drive and a chance. The building is lovely and has a bit of charm. The food was not to our liking. The spaghetti was very heavy and the sauce had a sweet undertone. My husband had the cheese steak dish with zoodles. Very rich, not great flavor. When we were asked if we wanted to go boxes we said no, we left quite a bit in our plates. The side salads were overpriced at $8.99 each, again nothing special. Our server was pretty good. We felt very alienated because we were not local. Pricey 2 meals, no appetizer and 1 soft drink = approximately $80 including tip. On street parking.

We were in the mood for Italian, so I suggested we drive to Buckner for dinner and try Tusconos.

We were seated quickly and received our drinks and bread in a timely manner. We ordered, and the server was friendly and helpful. I thought the atmosphere was cozy.

We received our food quickly. My chicken parmesan was amazing. The red sauce was fantastic, and the chicken cooked perfectly. The lasagna was good ( very meaty ) the Alfredo was good also, but I was too full to finish it.

The bread wasn’t amazing, but everything else was terrific. Bread was average, but it was close to closing, so it was possibly cooked earlier and not fresh.

I’ll definitely be back!

This place is pretty nice! We came for our anniversary and it was really fun. It’s upscale but not overly fancy. Nice romantic atmosphere. There’s also a seating area outside, we were inside. Chocolate cake is a must…the slice is gigantic!

Don’t get me wrong, beautiful building. But waiting a hour isn’t worth it. Soup, cold. Spaghetti was lukewarm and the meatballs were practically rock hard. Ordered pizza and it was colder than Antarctica. I think the worse part was as soon as we got our COLD food 2 other people sat down and got their food 15 minutes later. I don’t understand what changed because I came here a while ago and it was amazing. Also they were busy but not busy to where there was no seats, there was plenty of seats open.

My family loves a good Italian restaurant and BOTH of our last 2 “go-to” places have now either closed or changed hands (and is no longer good). Dad’s requirement to call a place good is that it reminds him of his mom’s cooking. We visited Toscono’s in Buckner recently and, while it’s not grandma’s, it’s close..

The prices are a bit high, a family of 4 should expect to spend about $100 without alcohol, but the food is pretty good. It’s no Cafe Italia, but it is the best I have found since CI shut down. My dad had the shrimp Alfredo, mom got lasagna, and I got penne in meat sauce. We also ordered a 4 meat pizza to go so we could try their wood fired pizza (forgot to take a pic of it when we got it at the end of the meal).

The ambiance is nice, quiet and clean. There is a small private room you can reserve, well appointed restrooms that are clean, “Sal” over looks the wood-fired stove which you can view from the main dining area, and a bar room with TVs that are not turned up so loud they bother the diners in the main room. Lovely art prints hang on the wall, as well as an original painting that is beautiful. The storefront is easy to find, and the outdoor space has a fountain that provides a nice backdrop and sound of bubbling water.

They start you off with bread and seasoned oil, the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and we all enjoyed our food during the meal. The pizza though, was by far my favorite thing- it was old world Italian style, made in the wood fired oven, and was amazing!!! I’m so glad we decided to order one to go!

Service was excellent, even when it started getting busy earlier than they expected, leaving their one server to cover all of the open tables in 2 rooms. We never felt forgotten and were also not constantly bothered. Overall a good experience.

This place is a diamond in the Ruff. Hands down the best Italian cuisine I have ever had in the Kansas City area. If you ever get an opportunity to eat at this place, don’t pass it up. The dishes are prepared made to order and served fresh and hot with premium ingredients. You can really tell the chef puts his heart and soul into the food when preparing the dishes. I had the bruschetta recommended by the waiter chase for an appetizer. For an entree we ordered the spinach, artichoke chicken pasta and the chicken paccata. The atmosphere was upscale and had a pulse. The music was pleasing and authentic Italian. Chase was our server and was very pleasant and hospitable. He made recommendations and suggestions. He answered all our questions about the menu without missing a beat. For dessert we had the triple layer chocolate cake. You have to order dessert. I will definitely be back to explore more of the Devine menu.
