For anyone craving authentic Bengali cuisine in and around the Chicago area, Turmerica is truly a hidden gem. Chef Sunny does an excellent job of bringing the traditional flavors of Kolkata to life. The food is rich, flavorful, and nostalgic, making you feel like you’re enjoying a home-cooked meal straight from Bengal. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience genuine regional Indian cuisine. Highly recommended dishes :Fishfry, Macher kochuri, Peas kochuri, Biriyani, Mutton Kosha.

First time coming here. The food was beyond excellent. Very delicious. Similar to Mexican food. The staff was friendly and they have great customer service. The prices were excellent as well. I would definitely drive here all the way from Chicago again. Their mango smoothies are definitely fresh as well. Awesome hidden Gem in The Shaumburg area.

Honestly, the biryani’s taste and aroma were exactly like Kolkata-style biryani, which I really appreciated. However, the rice was overcooked and stirred too much, so many grains were broken and the biryani was not fluffy. The mutton quality and the size of the pieces were also not up to the mark. That said, considering the price, the quantity of mutton was reasonable. Overall, it would have been much better if the quality of both the rice and the mutton had been maintained properly.

Food was warm and yummy, perfect for a cold night when you really have an itch to scratch for a hearty meal. Am I an expert on Indian cuisine? No, so I definitely went the basic route with the butter chicken and garlic naan, and it was just what I was looking for! Service is okay, but everyone is very friendly. Only thing that slightly disappointed me was the portion sizes.

They have lost it. When they opened this place a few years ago, the quality was lot better. We went there recently and ordered 3 vegetarian dishes. The Baingan curry was horrible but neatly presented in a bowl. It was just cut eggplant with lot of turmeric powder and water. The Malwani curry was too oily and had lot of masala but no taste. Solkadi was okay. It was just differently flavored buttermilk. Gobi munchurian was very good. Kothmibir wadi was okay but I would not recommend it. Staff was courteous. Turmeric in Schaumburg is an absolute gem! Their food is bursting with authentic Indian flavors — every dish we tried was rich, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented. We had mutton thali, sabudana wada, dosa and schewazan fried rice and lots of sweetsss!! The sweets were a standout, especially the fresh bengali mithais, truly heavenly. We tried the sweets and loved them so much that we took a try of 50 pieces for our party next day!!. What really sets Turmeric apart is their warm hospitality; the staff is incredibly welcoming and attentive, making you feel like a valued guest from the moment you walk in. The ambiance is elegant yet cozy, perfect for both family dinners and special occasions. We left with full hearts and fuller stomachs. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for genuine Indian cuisine with top-notch service. If I could give more than five stars, I would!!!

I keep coming back to Turmerica because the food—especially the Bengali dishes—is genuinely excellent. The flavors are authentic and consistently good. I also want to say that the owner is a genuinely good person, and when he’s personally involved, the experience is much smoother.

That said, today’s experience was extremely frustrating and crossed the line. I placed my order 30 minutes in advance, arrived on time, and then waited another 30 minutes at the restaurant. Despite that, my food was still not ready, and I ultimately had to leave without my order. During this time, customers who arrived after me were served 15–20 minutes earlier, which made the situation even more disappointing.

This issue seems to happen mostly when orders are handled by others and not the owner himself. I was also told certain items were unavailable, only to see those same dishes being served to other customers. This lack of transparency and order fairness has happened multiple times now.

Great food and a good owner deserve better execution. Until wait times and order management improve, experiences like this make it hard for loyal customers to keep coming back.

We were craving some authentic Indian food and found this place, which offers a mix of both Marathi and Bengali cuisines. We met the Bengali chef and asked for his specials. He offered to customize the food to our taste.

We spent about 2.5-3 hours on a Saturday afternoon, and tried number of disheswe were surprised to see that, every single item was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. We asked the chef if he could make Luchi with Goat Kosha (thick gravy), which wasn’t on the menu. He made it for us, and the taste was just wow!

We ordered Fish Kalia, Chilli Chicken, Butter Chicken, Mishti Doi, a yellow Rasgulla type sweet, Goat Kosha, Luchi, bengali-style Biryani, and Falooda. Each and every item was freshly prepared and tasted amazing.

We loved the food so much that we later ordered Chicken Noodles and Chicken Fried-rice for dinner, which were good as well.

I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic Bengali dishes. They also have a Marathi chef, but we didn’t get a chance to try Marathi food this time, next time, we will! 🙂

We ordered the below items and the overall experience wasn’t good at all.

Masala dosa – Batter was sour and uncooked as seen in pics below. (probably stale and hence we cancelled the onion uttapam order).
Vadapav – wasn’t freshly made either. Mostly reheated. Tasted ok
Missal pav – Tasted good
Chicken curry with Chapatis – it was delicious but the after effect of eating this wasn’t pleasant. My stomach is feeling uneasy. Chapatis were fresh and excellent but butter was literally dripping, which is great if you love butter.
Thalipith- Tasted okay too. Had floury taste.
Zatka vadapav – Tasted good.

Probably great place for marathi thali’s but breakfast wasn’t it for us here.
