What really stood out was how thoughtful the vegetarian options felt. The cauliflower can be ordered as a bowl, burrito, or taco, and everything is customizable—I ordered the cauliflower bowl and could easily remove ingredients I didn’t want. The sauces were excellent—flavorful, slightly spicy (optional), and clearly well thought out. They really elevate the dish.
My husband ordered the banh mi bowl, and he enjoyed it as well. The flavors felt globally inspired but still grounded in Mexican cuisine. This didn’t feel like a place where vegetarian dishes were an afterthought; they felt just as intentional as the meat options.
Prices felt reasonable, portions were satisfying, and the overall California-style ambiance with plants and a relaxed vibe made it a great lunch spot. It could easily work for dinner too.
Would definitely come back—great option for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.
I was hesitant to give service 4 stars. On the one hand, I love the food, I love the person making the drinks, I love how understanding the waitresses are about food modification requests. There was one instance where the order came out wrong, and they not only remade it but also didn’t charge for it.
The only complaint I have is that the waitress(es) tend to disappear after taking the food order. It is hard to find them, in the event of questions or adding more food or getting the check (at the end). We just assume they went on break and will be back in 15. This is the case both when it’s v busy and when it’s low volume. So now we just get up and make those requests with the person at the counter.
Nonetheless, it is one of my favorite places. Best date spot, 10/10. It has a very cohesive aesthetic.
Plates we shared for the table, roughly ranked in order of preference:
1) fried shrimp tacos (on a corn taco – this is a corn taco kinda place, with the exception of burritos)
2) squash blossom quesadilla (unique offering and so delightful and pretty)
3) carne asada burrito – a solid, inoffensive choice
4) grilled chicken taco – while the shrimp taco was my favorite, the chicken taco was my dining companion’s favorite
5) tuna tartare tostada – this I honestly wouldn’t reorder, as the tuna tartare flavor-wise was fairly bland. But the tuna looked fresh and maybe a good option for somebody more health conscious than I am.
Appreciated the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa while waiting for one’s order. The booth we sat in was comfortable and cozy.

A lot of plant based options as well as seafood options, which I love. Bowls is must try because of how amazing rice is. I’m not usually the one to look forward to rice in a bowl, but here it tastes like plov!
️ – plenty of street parking for $2/hour
– prices are very fair, expecially for those portions. For everything we’ve had, we paid around $75.
– staff is a perfect balance of caring and not being annoying. Very helpful and polite.
️ – interior is very stylish, with the elements of led lights, but minimalistic and not too bright.
Overall 10/10, will totally come back
I loved how each dish feels thoughtfully put together. The tacos have that perfect balance of texture and bold flavors, and the burritos are stuffed with the kind of ingredients that make you wonder why every burrito isn’t made like this. It’s familiar Mexican comfort food, but done with personality and creativity.
If you’re craving Mexican food that steps outside the ordinary, Tu Madre is absolutely worth the stop. Delicious, unique, and super satisfying.
Chips, guacamole and beer were all fresh and delicious. Fun atmosphere, and plenty of options for most diets, great vegan options! Solid happy hour as well.
