To my demise, I put on notes it’s his birthday. They did acknowledge it, but they seated us by the front door in front of the fire extinguisher. I noted and expected better seating.
Again, food is personal. My partner and I enjoyed the overall experience. It’s a lot of hard work and dedication, and I recognize the chef off a TV Show. That’s why I was excited. I’m not rating this if I know I’m picky and personally did not like the main dish. That’s my personal preference and everything else was delicious.
Service was professional. Everything was great. I just HATED the feng shui. I’m being seated by the front door for my partner’s BIRTHDAY. It’s humiliating in my culture, it’s a sense of not feeling invited and being seated where the exit is. You’re essentially asking me to leave, just like in tea culture. I felt humiliated. I know full well that’s a personal take, but to each its own. Whatever. I’ve never mentioned a birthday at fine dining and being seated by an exit sign. I specifically asked for good seating.
The servers and even the front desk receptionist remembered it was her birthday and all wished her well! Food was fantastic fresh seafood! The crab in the soup was so meaty and tender. Appetizer tuna was so fresh too! Loved the crudo and venison as well. All just fresh ingredients and combination of flavors I never would have imagined would work well together but did! Service was fantastic although I think it may have been the longest time I’ve sat at a restaurant haha but I think it’s bc it was a four course meal! You get to choose out of two choices for the winter course for each course and dessert. Server paired a wine with our course and it was yummy too!
All in all great experience and would come back! Loved the food and staff!
They also validate $15 of parking in the lot across the street!
Our server, Grant, deserves special recognition. His professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality elevated the entire evening. He was knowledgeable, polished, and clearly a veteran in his field — the kind of service that makes a great meal even more memorable.
Overall, it was a phenomenal dining experience. We’re already looking forward to our next visit to see what new creations the team will come up with on their rotating six-week menu.
Otherwise everything was spectacular. The tostada to start, perfectly crisp and fresh. The crab in the corn soup, amazing. The banana pepper with the agnolotti, shockingly delicious. Perfectly prepared chanterelles with the beef. The pear mostarda even had a wonderful balance.
Excellent service, attentive, kind, very detail oriented.
This is my own pet peeve but I don’t think full restaurants ever need to have music playing.
I had an absolutely wonderful time and will gladly return the next time I’m in Boston.
But the food – that’s the real star here, and what sets Mooncusser apart from most other restaurants in the city. They truly understand flavor, and their execution is consistently top-notch. The plating can lean on the casual side, which might give the false impression that the food is ordinary – but it is anything but. You’ll encounter new ingredients, bold flavors, and unexpected combinations, and you’ll love them.
The prix-fixe menu allows for flexibility, making it easy to suit a wide range of tastes. Mooncusser is firmly in my top two restaurants in Boston, and it absolutely deserves a place on your list. You can thank me later.
