Went at 8pm and there was a queue but we got seated fast. Got the aburi chirashi which was so delicious I’ve been thinking about coming back ASAP! Salmon mentai maki was generous and delicious too. Comes with complimentary miso soup and vegetables

Great value Japanese restaurant. We had the 6 kinds Sashimi platter, Maguro don (with premium Maguro belly, minced tuna and Maguro), Cha Shu Ramen, shrimps and lady fingers. All meals comes with Miso soup and cabbage starters. And accompanied by a mug of Whisky Highball and hot tea. The sashimi slices were fresh and chunky.
All for $100 including gst and svc charge. Will be back to try their other dishes.

This place has been on my to-go list for a long time but I’d always past by and passed on it. Reason being that Holland Village has so many options that I won’t regret bumping up the priority list. Yet, how wrong I was to do so.

The humble outset actually masked the exquisite quality of food it produces. Ramen soup (black garlic) gives the likes of Ippudo a run for its money. Sashimi was fresh and sweet. The Kaisen Dons were fresh and delicious.

If you focus on value more than on price, you would be pleasant surprised. Competition around the corner (Sushiro) distracts one looking for good quality Japanese cuisine, but frankly, it’s 2 different selections. They are not substitutes.

Taste: Kaisendon is extremely fresh with thick cut sashimi (self explanatory with the photo). California maki very affordable but wish they had avocado in it. Mentai tamagoyaki was good but nothing outstanding in taste.

Cabbage side dish and miso was free of charge. I must say the cabbage was super delicious.

Cost: SGD 50++ (2 pax inclusive of GST and service charge)

Waiting time: 10 mins, Sunday 7.30pm

Overall: 9/10. Will definitely be back. Just to note that the seating space is quite small but their staff are extremely helpful and enthusiastic

so service first. staff was kind but there was person who didnt know english or chinese so it was hard to communicate. the food was very nice and my favourite was the smoked salmon mentai maki. we ordered that and mentaiko udon and ebi fry maki. the udon was a bit gelat (iykyk) but the ebi fry was very nice. of courrse the smoked salmon maki was super super good and they gave quite generous mentaiko
(oh my god the salmon maki was absolutely delicious !!)

Chanced upon this restaurant when looking for Japanese food around the area. Reasonably priced, salmon is very fresh and portion is generous.

Tamago is light and fluffy which I personally likes it.

Recommend.
Pricing is reasonable too

One of the best kaisendons I’ve had! Really loved the Salmon Belly Ikura Don – the salmon was so generously given + tasted so fresh and tasty and the rice was extremely flavourful. The free miso soup and vegetable sides were the cherry on top. Very pleased and will definitely come back!!

2 stars for the thicker-cut sashimi. I appreciated their generous portions for a reasonable price.

The miso soup, however, was less than ordinary . I hope they can improve it to taste more like a soup made by a real Japanese chef — right now, it lacks depth and interest.

I did enjoy the fresh sashimi — fresh is important, as not all average Japanese restaurants deliver that. The gyoza, unfortunately, was a disappointment. The oil they were fried in tasted like it had been used for over 8 hours and lacked authentic flavour.

Overall, it’s a decent spot for a quick eat-and-run, but don’t expect anything beyond that.

One of best Kaisendon in town (they’re from the same chain that owns Chirashizushi Shou in Bt Timah Plaza). Generous serving of fresh, thickly sliced sashimi on top a bed of perfectly portioned vinegared rice. I had a super satisfying lunch .
