Traveling this weekend and I heard that Brush, CO had a great steak house.
Sure enough, just a couple miles off of the 76 Business route I could a restaurant off on the left of the road.
At first I didn’t think it was open. Only one vehicle in the parking lot. I peered in through the door and didn’t really see anyone. I went back outside to take some photos of the business and an older man came partially out the door and told me they were open. I finished outside and in I went. The interior was themed with John Wayne and I only saw about 8 tables. The lights are very low and the atmosphere was quiet. The gentleman brought me a water and soon after a waitress appeared. I had fried sliced dill pickles for an appetizers. YUM
I ordered from The Littleton Pilgrim section. I ordered the 4oz Top Sirloin Dinner extremely well done. My sides were steak fries and fresh green beans and home made rolls.
My steak was cooked perfect for me and the fries and green beans were so fresh. The rolls were a little over done but very flavorable.
A little pricy for dinner but great food and service. $$$$
The interior is vintage dated with, hard to see with just old low lights hanging. Heavily decorated with John Wayne items and old jukebox off to the side of the bar.
Great place to reminisce and enjoy a nice meal!

This was a good find for us because they were open later than any other place we could find in a pinch. The owner and her father hosted us and we enjoyed delicious, perfectly cooked steaks in a John Wayne laden themed atmosphere. This restaurant has been in business for 20 years, and is presumably enjoyed by locals who will hopefully continue to patronize them and keep it going. The salad wasn’t much to get excited about, but the hand cut steaks were tender and seasoned nicely. The prices ran moderate to high. Our bill for two adults and a child topped $70 with only one beer added.

Me & my husband had dinner here last night and it was absolutely delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy as well as the lobster tail. Soft homemade rolls, and perfectly cooked baked potato. Decor is older but the owner was very pleasant and attentive. One of Brush’s hidden gems.

Great steaks that are hand cut and very tender. The atmosphere has a great small town feel. The owner and her father are great people to chat with. Highly recommend.

Here’s the real deal! Most steaks are Hand cut and cooked to perfection! I order medium rare and let me tell you it was perfect! Spot on all the way through. Very tender. My husband had serloin and lobster he was skeptical serloin can be tough. It was just as tender as me rib eye. Will definitely stop again on the way through. Great friendly people! Old time feeling the way things used to be. I forgot to take pictures before we started eating but here’s one

If you’re into John Wayne, then this is the place you’ve dreamed of. Everything John Wayne.
If you’re into good steaks, this is not the place for you.
The service was great and the ham and bean soup was the best I’ve ever had, so that earned them two stars.

Great stop for truckers. Lots of space for them to park out back. Home style food, nicest owners. Appreciate them staying late when we were ready for ‘real food’ compared to gas station snacks.

If you are country folk or not country folk, this place is a gem—- great steak, FANTASTIC white gravy and country fried steak, delicious Potato appetizer and friendly service. This was such a delight to find on our way back to Oklahoma. We loved our experience in the John Wayne themed restaurant, a placed he’d proud of I’m sure! Five stars. Thanks for a great meal and an at-home atmosphere.

Outstanding service and food, was like a trip back to the late 70’s early 80’s, the owner was a HUGE John Wayne fan and there’s pictures of the Duke everywhere

We stopped in Brush during a road trip and got lucky finding this place. They had chicken fried steak dinner on special, and it was perfectly cooked. We also tried a sirloin dinner, and that was equally good. The service was friendly and accommodating. If we come through this area again, we would definitely come back to True Grits!
