We have been here twice now. The house margaritas here are $10 and not worth it for the small cup they come in at all. We had the cracker jack shrimp and fried mushrooms appetizer. The were delicious. And then the tropical trader burger, shrimp and scallops meal, shrimp po boy and blackened shrimp alfredo. The Alfredo was not worth the price tag of $34 for the portion size. Other than those 2 high priced items, the food tasted great and they have outdoor seating for pets.

The third try. We both knew better but i do not leave reviews until the saying that the third time is a charm has been satisfied.

Be aware that the prices online are not correct so when you visit, expect to pay one or more dollars per item. I understand inflation, but restaurants need to update their online photos.

We had learned on a previous trip, that the grouper was not grouper but a nasty substitute, very fishy smell and taste. So we stayed away from the fish options.

My husband had the shrimp tacos. Tiny shrimp, fried, drowned in teriyaki sauce. Ordered onion rings as a side, cost an upcharge of $3 for 4 rings. What a joke. Tacos do not get teriyaki sauce. Tacos get a cabbage slaw for crunch and color. There was at least an 1/8 of an inch of sauce on the plate. And the onion rings we paid for were limp from sauce.

For my third try, I went with the Tropical Trader Burger, which had a large patty, “mounded high with bacon, jalepenos, a onion ring, pickles, and pepperjack cheese. Dressed with mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato”. The patty was large, but when the waitress asks how I want my burger cooked and I request medium, I expect medium. I received a burger patty that was cooked until it was as dry as the Sahara Desert and as grainy as sand and gray. Mounded high with bacon must mean a different thing in Tropical Trader language. I had a half a piece of bacon which tasted great but would have been greater still if I had a taste of bacon with at least every other bite. The main reason I ordered this burger was for the added flavor of jalepenos and pepperjack cheese. I received no jalepenos, zero, zilch, none. And the cheese on the burger was the right color of pepperjack, white, but was more like a white american cheese, no pop of heat. The lettuce was limp and gross. But hey i got a whole pickle round. The mustard was non existent and when I asked for mustard, the waitress said there was mustard on the burger. How would she know unless she took the burger apart. But if she did, she would have noticed an over cooked piece of meat, no jalepenos, no mustard, the wrong cheese.

Oh yeah. After all that, the fried cheese was very good. The price was higher on the menu than online. Over $3.40 per stick.

Also, our waitress was not attentive. We waited and waited for her to return to ask for a box. After ten minutes, I got one from the waitstaff section. Then had to ask another waitress to get our waitress for our check.

Well, anyway, wont return. Third time was not the charm. It was the closing of a chapter.

We have tried this place now for the third time. We will not return. Over priced. The food is not the best, not even good. And the waitstaff is unattentive and has to be tracked down. Sad. When all a man wants to do is take his wife out to eat, and the food and service is beyond terrible. My tacos were drowned in sauce and my wife’s burger drrrryyyyy (to use the words of Chef Anne Burrell) and not as described.

The bar has to do a lot of business by looking at the parking lot. Too bad we dont drink.

Nice restaurant set-up not worth the prices for food as was expecting some “wow/better factor” as far as sampling local foods in the area and went due to lots of people go there. It is no different than a diner for truckers in my experience. Small/limited bar samples for drinks & bar food. (No local brews that I know of and small “wells”/liquor choices)

As for being in a small “fishing town” it should have a better appeal with foods as it being on the coast and driving distance from Tallahassee. (Unlike where we reside on the “Manatee Capital” in Citrus County where things are widly abundant of choices in foods yet a “small” big town yet not a “fishing town.”)

Recommend to rotate menus and have more “flavors” to the place like Hamakockers BBQ.(different category of culinary.)

Also, I know there are some nice real estate around but don’t target them as they bring “money” as the town isn’t moving “fast” and/or improved since Hurricane Mike. (8 years ago) It was our 1st “mini- honeymoon/Birthday” vacation to there and ever and saw it was only a small disappointment due its “viability” on the economic side and such. Seafood is found all over that area but not “harnessing” it sustainably and choices.

If only want to be “home bodied” with nothing to do then it is good for that but that’s not for me or wife.
(And 2 dogs.)

**Note, Posey’s Up the Creek has better priced of the similar “restaurant” classification and they rank 4 stars on my expectations. (Even wife agrees and approves this comment.)

Excellent food and service! I was impressed that when we arrived the hostess opened the door for us and greeted us. The outside/ inside atmosphere was great! Lots of seating. We had Cracker Jack shrimp for our app. And it was delicious! It’s a must try for sure! You won’t regret it. Our waitress was super sweet and told us her recommendations and we took her opinion and got the shrimp and fish tacos. They were also very good! We ordered 2 of each and it was plenty for two people. They are very big tacos!

We had an amazing server who went above and beyond. Probably the best I’ve had in years. She took great care of us and my babies. The restaurant itself looks new and clean. The food had huge portions and was very good. We’ll definitely be back!
