Hot roastbeef and gravy was delicious with some added hot peppers! While some may call it run down or dated, the charm of an older store front brings a lot to the table. Stop in and check them out.

I’ve been coming to Troop Subs for years because, honestly, the sandwiches are great and the prices are hard to beat. However, today was the absolute last time I will ever step foot in this shop. The food might be good, but it doesn’t make up for an owner who is consistently rude and disrespectful.
I ordered a turkey and provolone “all the way,” and then simply asked for a second sub prepared the exact same way, just without the meat. He reacted like I had asked him to commit a criminal offense. When he asked what I wanted on it, I repeated “all the way,” just like I always have. He snapped at me, saying, “I don’t know you, now what do you want on your sandwich?” When I tried to clarify, he kept cutting me off and then actually started criticizing me in front of another customer. To make matters worse, the sandwich I asked for without meat had pieces of roast beef on the bread—I’m guessing from the customer before me (the one he was busy criticizing me in front of). Since there was meat on it, my wife ended up having to throw the whole thing away. Thanks, Troop Subs. Real classy.
It’s been a great run, but the owner’s attitude is toxic. After looking at other reviews, it’s clear I’m not the only one dealing with this. Great food isn’t an excuse for treating long-time customers like garbage and serving sloppy, cross-contaminated orders. You don’t have to worry about me ever coming back.

So the subs are good, but know what you want and don’t expect anything but exactly what they want to give you. One type of bread, and if you want to split the sub, don’t even think about one side having mayo and the other not. Just a couple tables to eat at. Rest of the place is a total mess.
But meat quality was good.

This was my first time in there since it was known as Frills. Boy has it changed atmospherically. The quality of the food has not changed; it’s still quite good, and the price comparative to other establishments is still remarkably favorable, but this place is just not the same. First of all, don’t believe that outside sign. The sign depicted Troops as selling burgers, Texas Weiners, and a few other things. Disregard it! The menu apparently has diminished down to primarily just subs. They’re still good, but the overall atmosphere inside has changed. It’s pretty much a race to get your order in, prepare it, and get on to the next customer. The head counter man seemed to be a bit nervous and anxious, but he did take pains to make sure he was getting the customers’ orders correct, which he did. It just felt like I was being rushed. I like the place, but without the burgers and dogs options, I just don’t feel comfortable.

I like the sub sandwiches here, you have to know what you want, quick! I can’t remember what I ordered, maybe the classic Italian, but it was awesome. Everything was fresh. The owner moves fast. But I honestly loved the sandwich!

Troops is phenomenal. You won’t find a cheaper deal for a good sandwich. The place itself doesn’t come with frills. It might look questionable from both the outside and once you’re inside, but give it a shot! The owner was friendly and asked us many questions, as we were traveling. We were amazed by the size of the sandwiches. A half order is seriously plenty. It’s a typical Jersey style sub for sure, with super thinly sliced meat. Troops is an experience in and of itself, and you’ll get a great sandwich for a great deal! Oh, and free lollipops!

The food and the people were both great. The place itself and the overall vibe/environment took away from the experience in my opinion.
I ordered the tuna, as it came highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. It was fresh, delicious, and also cheap. Sandwiches these days will typically run you $12-15 but this was $6 and change I believe.
I’d trust Troops to absolutely nail it on any simple sandwich.

these are the best subs I’ve ever had in my life
edit: I need to make this review more detailed. to expand upon what I wrote above, the subs served here are really big. the prices for these aren’t the worst either especially since the subs are large. I haven’t tried some of their other foods like their burger or tuna salad or something else, I only speak for the subs. They taste great, nice purchase for when we don’t feel like buying something else or making food at home. so great value for great subs. The place doesn’t look the best inside but I really don’t mind. Not a deal breaker at all for me; they have seating and music anyway. So I highly recommend.
