For food, I tried the specials: Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese ($7), as well as the Chicken Cordon Bleu ($15). The Grilled Cheese was pretty average, nothing to rave about, but the Tomato Soup was honestly disappointing. Instead of being smooth and comforting the way tomato soup usually pairs with grilled cheese, it came out thick and chunky, more like a pasta sauce, and it had way too much sugar. The sweetness felt out of place and made it hard to enjoy as an actual soup.
What also stood out was the price breakdown. Since the $7 special works out to $4 for the soup and $3 for the sandwich, I felt like I got more value from the sandwich. The soup came in a small cup and, given the taste and consistency, I didn’t really understand why it was priced higher than the sandwich. Maybe it stood out even more to me because the soup itself just wasn’t good, so it felt odd that it cost more than the sandwich, which was pretty average but still better than the soup.
The Chicken Cordon Bleu was also underwhelming. The chicken was very dry and tough to cut. I even tried pairing it with the mashed potatoes, the beans, and even dipping it in the Tomato Soup to see if it would help, but nothing really made the chicken any better. The sides were actually the highlight of the plate, although the beans looked like they came straight from a can, so I didn’t have high hopes for them. The mashed potatoes, on the other hand, were surprisingly good. The Cobb Salad was nicely presented, but the bowl was shallow for the price and the dressing tasted overly sweet, which may just come down to personal preference.
On the positive side, the staff were kind and friendly, and there was live music that added a pleasant atmosphere. Service interactions were a bright spot in the experience.
One detail worth mentioning is that I asked if mozzarella could be substituted for Swiss in the Chicken Cordon Bleu, but was told it was premade and substitutions were not possible. That did make me wonder how fresh the dish was, which might explain why the chicken came out so dry.
Overall, I would describe the visit as average with room for improvement. The service and environment were genuinely nice, but the food needs some refinement, especially the Tomato Soup and Chicken. With a few recipe adjustments and a closer look at portions, I think this place could really improve its overall dining experience.
The food they offer is fresh and scrumptious. Our favorite is their crab fries! Absolute must purchase. The bartender is on top with accurate orders and efficient service.
Bonus-They even do live shows!
They truly are a remarkable gem in Waynesboro. We hope you give them a chance.
Ran out of red wine. Specifically, all that was left were the unappealing reds from a certain local winery.
Ran out of tonic.
Ran out of sourdough bread.
“Bartender” in the front area was moving at a glacier pace to help the wait-staff. I could understand but there was only ever 1 person sitting at the bar during my time there.
Silly setup that only beer is served out front and mixed drinks have to come from the back. Figure it out!
Wait-staff (2) were awesome doing their best to keep up. Help from the bartender would have made things go more smoothly. Make a plan!
Food was good: club sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, caprese panini, French dip. Fries were Great.
IPA’s from Hidden Key Brewing were great.
Live music was great: Acoustic Rose.
Sliced tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, baguette, balsamic glaze, fresh basil, sprinkled with house garlic seasoning.
