Absolutely the BEST authentic Mexican food! I always finish my plate and my fiance takes me here least minimally once a month. Everything is delicious last visit I had the carnitas street tacos and appetizer Papas Locas. This IS my go to Mexican restaurant, the service is incredible and very friendly. Always a pleasant experience all the way around. I’ll update with pictures if I remember to take some before the plate is gone!

I always like to eat at locally owned businesses over a franchise, so I keep giving Tres Compadres a shot a few times a year.
Their strengths: quick to be seated and chips/salsa and drinks are quick to the table. You don’t have to wait for the order to be taken or for the food to be served. I’ve always found the food to be served hot to the table. The staff is also very friendly.
The negatives: The restaurant desperately needs a makeover to bring some real atmosphere to the dates and dingy space. The food: served quickly and served hot but I’ve not had a single dish that had much flavor. Everything that I have tried is pretty bland. I’m used to good Mexican spices and flavor especially in their sauces. There’s just nothing special about their flavoring here. Even their salsa tasted more like puréed tomato soup on my last visit…no diced tomatoes, onions or anything of texture.
With the service they have, this place could be incredible but for me it is really lacking excitement in atmosphere and especially lacking food flavors that make you want to visit frequently. I go Once or twice or year at best just to see if they’ve changed anything. I like the people and really want them to be a success for them and for my town. I can’t say I recommend any dish, but the Margaritas are usually a good pour!!!

Have driven by this restaurant several times and never thought of stopping until today ! Waitress’s are very attentive and helpful with the the menu and even the seating arrangements! I didn’t have to ask for a taller and sturdier chair they were observant of my needs! As far as the food goes they’re as good if not better than any other Mexican restaurant in central Illinois .

LOVE THIS RESTURANT! Food is authentic, service is spectacular. We’ve never had a bad meal here. Last night we had Pana Burritos. Mine without the tortilla because of a wheat allergy. Then we made a suggestion for Posole’ to be added to the menu. It soon appeared to our table! It was amazing! They should add it as a special or at least test it with the clients. ❤️❤️❤️

Had a great meal at this place which is something that you probably wouldn’t expect to find in such a small town. I found that everything about this taco was nearly indistinguishable from the offerings in Chicago and the suburbs. This is a feature that so far is unique to Illinois. Finding quality meals even in the small towns that are even off the interstate grid. Other than them slightly misunderstanding my order it was a great experience too as well as reasonable prices!
